Q: Feeling unappreciated on graduation day

So I've spent the past three years at an international school and we graduated our

first class today.  After the ceremony everyone goes out for a celebration but guess who? Me the only foreigner at the school. Pictures were taken with some of the students and their families but no invite to the  graduation celebration dinner. This was my third year at this school so I don't understand why no invite. I guess I'm feeling a little unappreciated and venting a little. I wonder why no invite.

your usefulness to the students has ended, and there is no need for them to ingratiate themselves with you anymore.

it sucks, but the interest and 'caring' attitude many students express towards their FT's is by and large superficial and now there is no benefit for them to pay you any attention now.

You might have spent your free time with extra coaching or activities, beyond contracted responsibilities, but that means squat to people who will take take take if there are people with the good-will to give especially for free.

As far as these students are concerned, they probably think they owe you nothing.

I spot very quickly the students who are worth the extra time and effort, and are genuine people, but these are few and far between.

congratulations on successfully completing another year in China.
