Q: Finishing work visa, can I get a one month L visa?

Hello.

I am finished with my current position. Hopefully I have another job lined up and will get the new Residence Permit, which expires January 14th. But if the government doesn't allow me another work permit, I want to know what my options here to take care of my business (basically exchanging my money and plane ticket). Can I get a 30 day L visa?

The place where I got my last Residence Permit is far away from where I am currently living, would I have to go to the Entry-Exit Department there, or any branch to apply for this? I am married to a citizen but we lost our marriage license book and have no idea where to get proof of marriage so this is an out for now.

What I find very annoying is that the government does not allow that much time between ending a job and reapplying for a new Work Permit. I was told from my FAO that she couldn't start the process until one month before the Residence Permit expires (and was told this from a former FAO who still has this job that I kept friendly contact with) and the cancellation took two weeks which gives me little time.

Might be a lot of drama for nothing, but would like to know my options if my new Work Permit is rejected (and it may be since I have been here for many years)

It use to be mandatory 30-days extension at the end of RP. You could either prepare for the exit or secure new position and continue with work in China without exiting and reapplying for new Z.

At my last RP expiration (June, 2017, Guizhou), I received only 14-days of Humanitarian visa, and I just exited China for good.

ButT .... SAFEA in Guiyang wasn't really sure about anything connected to laowai and RP, but I called them there often.

I am suggesting, you do the same because SAFEA's agents are the ones who (should) know the rules.

Enter 'SAFEA' in search above for contact numbers in your province. Addresses and contact numbers are provincial HQs, where you will most likely get in contact with English speaking Chinese agent.

You are far away from the city:

1. It is School's duty and obligation to escort laowai to the hospital for ME! Pay the ME fee, too!

2. Employer must take you to the PSB and get your RP extension sorted with cops! It is at the same PSB as where you got RP stamp at the beginning of work.

Employer must show some documents together with your passport. I guess, Chinese documents School must present to cops are ''School's authorization to hire laowai" among others.

If School rep. will reply ''No, you must do it by yourself ...'', just say:

"OK! Let me dial SAFEA ... and ask them about it!" and walk away.

After your call to SAFEA, School rep. will come back with the dates when you should be ready either for ME or RP extension, because SAFEA will dial School and coach them about their duties and obligations.

When I was doing the same thing, rep. always carried special folder with all School's required files.

I have another job lined up and they are working on my work permit. My employer now would not begin the cancellation of my work permit with them until one month before my Residence Permit expiration which is January 14th. I don't understand why this cannot be done a bit sooner so it gives me enough time if I am rejected for the new permit.

However, my Residence Permit expires in two weeks time and I have a fear that I will be rejected and then I have very little time to take care of my business.

I am married to a citizen, but we have lost our marriage license, which is the red book that the government gives, and have no idea where to get a new license. For one thing we would have to go to the city we were married, but again have no idea where to go since we were married 18 years ago. I don't know where to go to get a paper proving our marriage status.

I am going to take my physical Friday and the Entry-Exit Bureau of that city is nearby so will try to inquire there, but am afraid the L Visa would have to be issued by the city where I got my last Residence Permit which is a city I really don't know and not my "hometown" here.

'cause, Chinese don't reach with the hand to the pocket usual way.

They like to reach L pocket going with the R hand all the way around the arse.

There no longer is a 30 day L extension at the end of a Z.
you get 10 days, and you have to leave.

I left a job at the start of 2017 (halfway through my contract) and only got 10 days.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
