Q: Flying out a day after visa expires

Most of the question is in the title - have you ever flown out of China the day after your visa expired? Was there a fine or just a warning, if anything happened at all?

My visa expires on June 30th and the multi-flight that I'm looking at begins on the evening of that day but the second flight (taking me out of China) is on the morning of July 1st.

I'd either try to change my ticket or get a tourist visa.

Like Icnif said, overstaying your visa, even if it's just a matter of a few hours, can land you in the shite.

Don't do it!

Chinese cops at the border consider it not as a big offense, butT ... 'disrespect for Chinese laws and regulations ..' what is maybe even worse!

I overstayed my exit permit for several hours in 2010 or 11, flying from Tianjin to Shenzhen and exiting in Luohu. The plane was delayed at departure for some 8 hours on my last permitted stay day.

I was put in an empty room for some three or four hours like I was waiting for someone ...

Finally, English speaking Chinese she-cop came in and gave me a short lecture about respecting Chinese laws and so on.

It was my fault, despite delay at departure was recorded. I mean, I didn't have "I had flat tire ..." excuse for some 10 hours delayed exit.

Copper let me go without fine or recorded violation, but she strictly warned me 'it won't be the same second time ...".

Since then, I always exited China a day or two ahead of my last day.

haha,, happened to me once too,,,,  can't remember all the details, but I think it was some sort of math thing,, where I did the math wrong I guess,,,  anyway I exited SZ into HK 1 day over,,,,  haha,, the whole time I stood there just telling myself, 'I hope he doesn't catch it',,, and honestly it looked like he hadn't,,, just about thru the whole thing and I know he's about to stamp me out,,, when 'bingo!,, his face gets a kicked in the ballz look,,,  he gets the look like 'oh why him',,, and at last picks up fone and calls lao ban,,,,  boss shows up a few minutes later and they confab over why the damn math system is so obscure, when they could just put a date to GTFO,,, they jawbone a few minutes, flip thru my PP like it's interesting or something,  then finally they stamp me, hand PP over, I xiexie and walk away.  Never said one word to me about it.

but from everything I've ever read or heard I'm a pretty rare case.  usually they bust balls if u are one minute over.

Thanks for the replies. What if I go to Hong Kong on the 30th and fly out from there the next day? I think that should be ok because HK is a different region and my country has 6 month visa-free access. Am I right or is there some catch?

TPP:

That's definitely a better plan. What may seem like a trivial breach to us can become a big deal with future consequences. Cultural differences and 5000 years of history, don't you know. The butt-hurt is extensive.

icnif77:

You should exit China on the day your RP expires! It doesn't matter where you want to fly. Best exit is HK and then you can stay in HK 6-months ...

It use to be mandatory 14-30-days extension of RP at the end of the Contract. Your RP sponsor should take you to PSB a week before RP ends and cops will give you an extension. That extension was granted as preparation time for exit. Ask your RP sponsor about it!

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
