Q: Foreigners date ugly Chinese girls?

I've heard this one more times than I can count, to the point even my girlfriend at first felt a little self-conscious about it.

Chinese go on in endless threads on the internet about how foreign guys have no taste for Chinese girls, and how the girls we pick out are, for the most part, the bottom of their barrel.

I didn't much credence to this at first, but after discussing it with my gf and a couple of friends, it seems to be a really widespread stereotype. If you're a foreign guy and you have a Chinese gf, you'll notice that when you walk down the street, most Chinese won't be looking at you, they'll be looking at your girl.

And by the look of things, it's not even repressed jealousy. They genuinely seem to think we have no taste in Chinese girls.

Is true many Chinese think this. Of course its not always true, sometimes the girl is very beautiful, but i think notion of beauty is not same. no one can agree on beauty, but Chinese do have different general standard maybe?

One my friend dated a foreigner for 2 years and was scared at first it means she,s not beautiful. of course after a while she didnt care. most important is that the two are happy.

Actually, it's like desperately wanting the "toy" the other kid has, and you can't get it, so you pretend like the toy is no good, all the while whining about how it's the "toy's" fault it doesn't belong to you.

This is simply their juvenile way of justifying why a local girl would be with a foreigner.  Denial.

giadrosich is right...they are jealous.

Besides ultimately beauty is subjective...like art.

Please read my old post...http://answers.echinacities.com/question/what-typical-chinese-males-definition-beauty

Chinese men's definition of beauty is relative and meaningless (at least to me).

But with more experience I have come to conclusion that even if you were out with miss China she would become ugly in the eyes of some local men for reasons much deeper than physical beauty...or reality.

Well what's your definition of ugly? Everybody has their own definition not to mention there's a cultural influence on views of beauty and ugly. E.g that Chinese model in Paris? What's her name... I think she looks ugly but she's world famous and she looks ugly but so beautiful  holding her baby she just gave birth to.... Know what I'm talking about?

We all have different tastes, and I agree that some Chinese are jealous.

Also, at a school where I used to work, I asked a number of students who they thought were the most beautiful girls who worked there, and they all more or less agreed upon the same top 3. Those top 3 I did not even consider to be worthy of mentioning, and they appeared to be the most superficial out of all the girls at the school.

It is not a nationality thing...........It is a taste thing......even if  you are a foreign man or chinese.......different men have different taste.........some of the girls that i might like might look ugly in some guys opinion foreign or chinese......it is just different standards to different people.Chinese are just bitter if what you said is true.maybe we take all the beauties of them so they comfort themselves by this non-sense you mentioned

I must be an exception - I know how much a lot of Chinese appreciate how beautiful one of their own, my girlfriend, is.

I don't mind the ugly ones, cause they're cute. I won't go for the fat ones, luckily there aren't many.

not everyone is looking for a beautiful women, some people would just prefer someone they get along with, as for taste i think thats just bullshit cos for sure you can find someone who you are attracted to, but would you stay with them if you didnt like their character or they was obviously intellectually challenged and all you seem to do is look after them, if you did in that case you would be just as stupid as some of these celebrities going around with some young  chick who is obv with them for only one reason

Well, IMHO there is only one beautiful woman in China.  And I was lucky enough to marry her.  Sorry to say that the rest of China has to take my leftovers.

OMG, you're spot on!

My Chinese girlfriend and I get dirty looks from other Chinese walking by us. I think those bitches are jealous, or they think she's with me for an instant ticket to the U.S. Everyone has their own taste in who is good-looking or not. So it's best to just ignore it. Like I do.

Oh definitely. It's one of the most common things you hear about foreigners and Chinese brides/girlfriends.

My wife and I had a running joke about this but of course westerners are confused and think I'm insulting my own wife. But of course we refer to the Chinese perception.

Yep, beauty standards are different. Westerners may see a long face as pretty or simply normal (by our standards) but those Chinese gals see her as a 'horse face' sorta thing. I suppose many examples of differing beauty perceptions are seen here in so many articles.

I would also suggest something else is happening these days. The internet is so commonly how people meet these days. I think this might be a good thing too. It may be that more foreigners are falling for personality, communications and taking interest - sometimes before actually seeing the lady's pictures.

One could argue that is a good and admirable thing as the match is made by quality of character and personality rather than sheer superficial looks?

And yes my wife would be considered, at best, just average by most Chinese women. Maybe a little unattractive.

But in the west (and this almost worries me sometimes) but women just love her and fawn over her and constantly tell her she is so cute they just love how cute she is and want to hug her. Go figure.

In Hong Kong, I can see those girls are quite good. Some of them are above average and some are just normal. I don't see ugly girls are with foreigners though (in HK). Girls dress up sexy to attract white men in clubs and bars, so most of them are kinda hot!

I like an exotic looking girl with some T and A.

To many Chinese guys that's just a fat girl who's too black.

A:If you earned a Master's Degree in English Literature or a related subject, you can teach English legally in China even if you don't hold a passport from the usually accepted list of countries. The visa requirements clearly specifies this “loophole”.Nonetheless, I think this requirement is only for teaching English. If you are a licensed teacher of another discipline, such as Math or Physics, you don't need to be a native speaker, although most schools would rather hire a teacher from a country where English is the native language.Right now China’s borders are closed (does anyone have new information?), at least that’s what everyone is saying. China is probably only going to reopen the borders again once most of the population is vaccinated, and that might take a while. -- samvelasco87
