Q: Fresh fruits & veggies?

I know the markets all carry fresh fruits and veggies, but is it safe to eat them fresh, or does everything have to be cooked? What's goin on here?

And is everything in Chengdu spicy style?

I'm gonna have to bring pebto and tums. Shy

some places use newspapers to wrap their fruits and veggies if you see that avoid them , the ink from the newspaper seeps into the fruits and and can cause cancer. other than that i just pick carefully , people will try to sell you trash if they can

all shichuan food i had was spicy, but i have been told that chengdu food is in it's own class so i cant answer that one for you

Apples, oranges , mangoes, cheries, plums, peaches and nectarines are no where near as good as those I can get in Australia so I dont eat many of them apart from mangoes which are still OK. I eat lots of Bannanas, Mangosteen, Melons, Pineapple and a few of the other exotic fruits and have never had any problems. Vegies are good and just need a wash. Dont stress too much about the food, just enjoy it.

I buy fresh fruits and veggies from markets all the time. Just be sure that you wash everything really well.

Not all the food in Chengdu is spicy. You can also ask for not spicy (bu yao la) when you order. Chengdu is an awesome city and there are tons of different cuisines from all over the world, so you can avoid spicy foods pretty easily.
