Q: Further to the discussion about what could make this joint better

An ECC official wechat account containing access to, lets say, the top 10 current discussions (for example) would be great in my opinion. Perhaps a chat function for spur of the moment general banter.....

I must admit that I'm a little surprised that this hasn't come up or been considered (or I may have skimmed over the mention)

Thoughts, critisisms or otherwise thoughts?

Wouldn't that make the website a little pointless though? I mean, as I understand it websites rely on visitor numbers in order to sell advertising.

If people are using wechat instead of the website they wouldn't get those visitor numbers.

I've seen other official accounts that have tabs for different content so I guess it could operate in the same manner revenue-wise.

No, do you want the CCP chasing you down for something you posted?

Simple, terms of use do exist apply it to all. Get rid of posters with multiple accounts and obvious trolls.

A WeChat account, then I would go to jail because my writings are so brilliant that they'd be shared so much they exceed the allowed limit (800) OK, maybe not my ramblings, but a few people here write such awesome stuff that I am sure the audience exceeds the limits set by the gubbermint who fears no criticism.

An overhaul of sorts is needed. The layout on the main site seems a bit behind the times for one. New content may be necessary to go hand in hand with a more effective organizational scheme, but as for what, its up to the staff to get around a table and discuss.  Do a bit of market research.

This is one of my favourite forums that I follow...

http://forum.practicalfishkeeping.co.uk/

I don't post there, but I do follow it.

And as I follow it, I am made aware that people seem to think their posts on that forum affect multi million buck businesses. They think a fish tank filter distributer is as big as google... Nope.

I know traders. I work with OEMs. The people that sell advertising space on practical fishkeeping are not making millions. They are part of a magazine chain that is struggling to survive. Probably full page adverts at 200 bucks a go. Not half a million. But the posters seem to think it is a billionaire empire.

I read that forum for free. I read all forums for free. I would never pay to contribute. Click bait? Yeah sure. Of course it is. Same as facebook or instagram.

Our forum is free. It is very specific. It is the biggest forum in the most populous country in the world...but we have a few dozen contributers. Are the owners making millions from it? Get real.

If it was, it would be called "Microsoft ECC"

The value of ECC is probably about $40k. That's not going to interest the investment bankers. But it might appeal to the hipsters.

I have no idea. I just enjoy posting.

Similar thoughts were spoken a year or two ago, about a QQ group for ECC. The thread was shut down hard. It's clearly not wanted by the website, though I can understand why some folks might want to socialise more with forum members.

ScotsAlan:

Old boys club and all that. Yup. Bad stuff. So If I happened to be where you were, would you refuse to meet up for a beer on a point on principle? Of course not.

http://forum.practicalfishkeeping.co.uk/

I read the above forum. I don't post, but if you browse it you will see that many posters seem to think it is a billion buck company selling million pound adverts.

Its not. It is a magazine struggling to stay alive in the internet age.

People who post there seem to think multi million buck companies are making their fish tank filters. Nope. Its Chinese factories doing it as cheap as they can.

This forum is free. Nobody is making millions. If they were it would be called "Microsoft ECC". There would be an app. It would be in the news.

Nope, its just a small website published in the most populous nation on earth. The apathy is astounding. But that's forums for you. The people who care post, the silent majority don't even know it exists.

ScotsAlan:

Sorry. My first post failed. So I posted again. Sort of double post.

Nice job Mr Schrodinger....I just had a play and it works well...basically the same as the web version but a tad faster on my phone. And you can still make your millions of dollars. Kudos

Implement Facebook like rules.  Verifiable email addresses cross-checked against viable telephone numbers.  Profanity controls.  An active Admin to ban abuse. And iWolf, my primitive one, if the shoe fits, wear it.
