Q: To get no-criminal record and degree authenticated to change jobs, must do it in home country?

With the new regulations, are these two documents now necessary to change to 99% of new jobs nowadays? does It mean I have to get the documents in my home country then bring them back here to secure a new job? or can I let someone already in my home country get the new documents authenticate them, then send them here? do these processes require my presence in my home country to get them? a 'little' strict if you ask me, thank you for any responses

What Spider says may not be true! It may depend on your government, etc.

I know this from personal experience when I had my Criminal History stuff done by my friend. But then, I was able to get the criminal history done online and mailed. He then took it to my gov's Dept of Foreign Affairs, who then authenticated it, And then he took it to the Chinese consulate, who did their bit.

In theory, authenticating your degree should be similar.

Having originals in China is unlikely to be of any benefit, as your home government first needs to authenticate the seals etc of your degree. You could contact your embassy and see if they offer that service.. But the locals may not be able to do their bit, as one would expect the Chinese consulate back in your home country to have all the right stamps and identifications in place, but over here they wouldn't.

1. Yes they are necessary.

2. Yes, you need to go home and do it in person, unless someone has a Power of Attorney for you there.

silvver311:

thank you.

my follow-up and last question would be,

Say if you were to have the original documents on-hand while in China, can you do the full process here?

Yes, Shenzhen requires these for Changing jobs:

1. China embassy authenticated refrence letters proving you really have 2 years of exp.

2. Degree and TEFL or Certs China embassy authenticated.

3. FBI (If you're an American) or from your Security check office China embassy authenticated.

Bonus: Yes, must be done in your home country and the country where your degree comes from.

Its a lot of BS, but no choice. We're Korea style now.

Spiderboenz:

Yeah, it's a hassle and all that, but if it keeps out the fake degrees and pedo/criminals, then I am all for it.

That's for the new hire, or you are saying FT, who works in China several years must bring authenticated 'out of China' working experience?

As I 'collect' news about authenticating from placement agents and posts here, only Shenzhen requires degree authentication. No such thing in Guizhou in April/May 2016.

Had job offer in Zhejiang a month ago and 'no degree auth. necessary' rep. replied. I didn't get job, thou.

It is part of the new "ranking" system that is being piloted in Shanghai, and goes national in April. All new hires have to do this, so yes, even people who have been working in China for several years will have to do it if they switch jobs.

I know I'm old 80's jokes. Meaning if someone can't afford the time and hassle to change jobs with this new talent visa requirements, than they might as well name themselves after the company like EF, because he,she or they are stuck there now. (Well for now until they change the policy again.)..

In Beijing, I only had to show 'verification' of my TESOL cert...which was a screenshot of it being verified on the website.
Oh, and of course the paperwork transferred from my previous job....nothing else.

ironman510:

Thats because the main policy won't start until April 1st 2017

Changed jobs and didn't need either. This was in Guangzhou at an international school. Everything seems to be above board.

When did you do this job change. Timing is everything.

Shanghai is the experimental unit to China for these new rules since November. Other cities, no trial period. From April 1st like already mentioned this will be effective all over China.

You will need to do this when you are applying for your first work visa with your new employer, this also applied when changing jobs.

All I can say to this is, goodbye to all those on fake documents!

More to the point, Spider is correct.

2. Yes, you need to go home and do it in person, unless someone has a Power of Attorney for you there. - E.G Brother, Sister, Mother etc.

You will not be able to do this by a Chinese notary or lawyer, I've already tried. Yes it is that much of a ball ache!

Aikidan:

You can get a power of attorney notarized at your consulate. Print out an online form approved by your State of residence.  Then go online and select the appropriate consulate nearest you and make an appointment for Notarial Services. I recently paid $50 to do so at the USA consulate in GZ. You may pay in cash RMB or USD at the consulate.

Rubbish!

I had my friend do it for me. Things  may be different depending on country, but it's quite possible for it to be done. WHY? Because authentication of documents does NOT rely on the individual presenting the documents to do anything other than present the documents - they have NO OTHER LEGAL RESPONSIBILITY.

The universities in the west must be really wondering why SAFEA needs to autheticate authentic university degrees. Yes, it is true they can be copied. but so can the authentication process.

Shining_brow:

True, but then it becomes a federal crime... And, guess who's actually legally liable? (no, it ain't the Chinese...).

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change student visa to labourer one is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
