I think Pogger is correct about what you will need.  Though, your bride-to-be should be able to check easily with just a quick phone call or two to the appropriate agencies.

If you plan on bringing her back to Canada with you, then you will want to check with your embassy to see what additional paperwork is needed.  Countries often require that you show you will be able to financially take care of your bride and that your bride proves she is not wanted for any crime, etc...

Congratulations on getting married and condolences on having to come to Wuhan.  If it is your first time in China, please do not judge the rest of the country by this miserable excuse for a city.

Oh godlings, I am sure there are places out there worse than Wuhan, but I will not let my brain go down that dark twisted path.  All I can say is run far, far away from that pit.  It will destroy your soul.

Dark path?  Dark...  Is there any other kind of path?  Path, yes... No, I don't think so.  Less and less light each day, many twists in path, many holes to fall in and never be seen again. Dark... I remember the light, I think I remember.  What is remember? There is only the path with twisted trees, wilted flowers and the smell of decay.  So many noises, so many that they eventually turn into the silence of white noise. Path, twisted, dark.  A scream in the distance I hear...  Then silence.  Someone walked into one of the holes.  Better for them to end it quick then to linger in the dark.  Brain not working... Name, what is my name?  I had one once, I know it.  But it is lost now like the light and the birds that chirped.

11 days and counting.    But if you go to Japan, you will be able to have real Kobe beef!  If you get the chance to do that, then you must.  It is crazy expensive but if it is prepared right then it is the best steak you will ever, ever have.  And I know steak!  I once had Alan Hale (Skipper on Gilligan's Island) cook me one with a blowtorch.  (Tasty except for the hint of butane.)

Kobe's parents loved the steak so much that they named their son after it.  (True story).  Anyway, Japan, like any other place has its ups and downs.  But the strangeness is what I love about it.  The 'maid cafes', magna reading lounges, 'dating' cafes,  used panties from vending machines, goth lolitas, cosplay, etc... I love that place.  My kind of wierd.

Contact your births, marriage, and deaths department in your state or terriorty in Canada pay the fee for your single certificate. Take the certificate to your nearest embassy or consulate get it verified by them.

Also contact the Wuhan marriage place to make sure they don't require any other certificates or papers. If your soon to be wife is not from Wuhan or  Hubei you need to go to her home city to get it done.

I'm a Canadian and been through it. All you need is to go to the Canadian consulate or embassy and sign an undertaking swearing you are not married in Canada, it is a legally enforcable document in Canada. We're actually lucky, this process is much more complicated for other nations.

Then you just need your passport and visa info. It's really easy.

Like Nevermind said. It's a relatively simple procedure as I am also a Canadian who has been through it. Went to Beijing and had the paper quickly with no complications.

legally you don't even need to prove that you are single .....  but best to get that piece of paper because if some local Chinaman/woman ask for it, they could cause serious delays.

Too many complicated answers.

1. You want to check with the nearest Canadian embassy to be sure they have the service.

2. Go, in-person to that Canadian Embassy.

3. Passport, Visa and I think it might be about $70 CDN (bring that to be sure).

4. Canadian official will give you a paper swearing you are single. You swear and sign.

5. Canadian official will give you a 'Certifcate of Singleness' (not actual name).

6. You make sure you take that single piece of paper with you when you go to get married.

There is nothing else. There are no other things required in regards to the specific question you asked.

AS FOR the next steps. Just so you know up front - her paperwork might be complicated but also be prepared the Chinese will require official translation of your documents. Which is no big deal but just be prepared for finding official translators and paying out some cash for that too.

Then be prepared for a brutal marriage and hopefully you will survive a Chinese wife. Good luck!
