Q: Getting into trouble because of adult material online in China?

I know that explicit adult content material such as xxx movies are illegal in China. However, I don't know what actually attracts punishment and what does not as far as this is concerned: Is it the viewing online? Downloading of such content? Of course I know distribution of such material is a straight NO.....but does viewing of this kind of stuff online in one's own private home count as a legally punishable act in China? Do authorities really track down people who access adult sites here? ( I am simply asking about accessing. I know developing or running such sites is illegal).

I'll tell you this: viewing such material is trackable, as is searching for such material. As a foreigner, you will not be flagged for the odd search or streamed movie. If you make it a habit, maybe.

To put your (dirty, filthy, disgusting) mind at rest, just make sure that your cache is cleared, search history is cleared, and that you do not store any "yellow" files on your 'hard' drive.

I don't know many Chinese (male OR female) who don't "research" porn. The odd news story crops up now and then about how a certain person gets caught downloading/watching/thinking about porn.

So my mind is dirty/disgusting because I do not know how Chinese laws about online adult material operate! How interesting!!!

'Twas a joke. Go ahead and look at all the woman-hating, sexist, lewd and filthy trash you want. "What this town (and country) needs is an enema!"

Sorry, for some reason I cannot post comments to comments.

I don't know the legalities of it but I watch porn constantly. I'm actually watching a woman making love to a horse as i'm writing this message. Doesn't even get me aroused anymore.

I remember when I was teaching in Beihai, the DOS (Director of Studies) used to hold the introductory meetings for any member of the public interested in our school, in a large hall that usually had between twenty to thirty people in it, and every week i'd be sat at the back giggling like a school-girl (Note to self: i'm a 44 year old man, I really should do something about my laugh) because this doofus used his own computer on an overhead projector, and anyone could see that one of the files on his desktop was clearly marked 'Greg and Sally Sex-Show'. So i'm guessing it's not 'the biggest' thing to worry about if you like a bit of (haha, how did sinobear describe it?) lewd, dirty and disgusting filth to while away your private time with. More power to your elbow, as Lokebloke would say.

Absolutely.
