Q: Getting a visa for my Chinese girlfriend?

Why is it so difficult to get a visa for the UK for a Chinese girl ? I have a Chinese girlfriend and the UK make it so hard to get a Visa .I am English and want to go back to my home land take her with me and get married, but the way the UK people act is treating her like a criminal befor she gets there, they want to know to much I am a British Citizen and think I have the right to take who I want into my country.... After we are married then she will get a job by the way her English is fluent so that is not a problem.......Come to think of it thats why I left over 20 years ago and travelled around befor coming to China 5 years ago.....

Dude, you are from the UK and a UK citizen. If you are just trying to get her a tourist visa or actually begin immigration, it will be a tough ride.

The UK has fiance visas. If you are going to get married, this is the best option. More info, clicky-clicky:

My friend had a similar experience in that she found it incredibly difficult to get her Chinese boyfriend a UK visa. The first time their visa application was refused but they've since managed it. She was just applying for a tourist visa so I imagine a longterm visa is an absolute nightmare. In the last few years, the UK has tightened its border controls and they've significantly limited the number of longterm visas granted to non-Eu citizens each year. For a tourist visa though, the key is to proove that you have solid roots here in China and have every intention of returning.

I don't want to be skeptical of anything but there is a reason why it is hard to get a UK visa for Chinese people.

Doesn't matter if you treat her like a princess or not, what matters is whether or not she will go all Wendy Deng on you.

Fair enough. My apology if you find my previous comment insensitive.

Keeping this serious than.

Have you tried getting the tourist visa first? The embassy usually requires visitors to have proof or invitation letters from friends/sponsors in the UK and even their tax proof. Not just for Chinese, some friends of mine who are not Chinese (but from developing Asian countries) need to have three UK friends (who are currently in UK and not in China) send in a real copy of invitation letters and tax proof, the embassy than proceed to hold their passport for almost a month to 'evaluate' their intentions on going to the UK before finally approving the visa. Those are just for tourist visas.

Another is to register the marriage here first and than apply for a spouse visa with the intention on doing another nuptials in UK where the groom comes from. And you are already married by the Chinese law, which makes her your wife by law.

I know this is a bit old, but people keepaccessing it, so I will add a bit.

First ,For Mrpopular, just because you are British does not give you any right to take any foreigner whatsoever into the UK.If the person is a non EU/EEA citizen, whether they are allowed into the UK or not, is entirely at the discretion of the British Government, even if he/ she is the spouse of a British citizen.

Having said that, it is not difficult for someone to visit the UK providing they make the correct application, and can supply the correct documentation. In fact, getting a visa is quite simple and quick. The documents are not hard either..providing you have them!

It is not you who is applying for your girlfriend's d visa, it is her,so she has to supply the documents. The Embassy is not trying to stop genuine visitors. In fact it is doing the opposite, and trying hard to promote visits to UK.  However, it will need to be satisfied that visitors have sufficient funds to finance the length of their stay in the UK,and also to be convinced that the visa applicant will leave the UK before their visa expires. Proof of funds can consist of support letter from boyfriend, with copies of HIS bank statement, which is what I gave.My girlfriend also was able to give proof of her employment  in China,a couple of photos of us together, and a few emails. My girlfriend came to the UK 3 times before we were married in the UK.The first visa took 16 days, the second was 6 days, and the 3rd, which was a marriage visa, took 8 days. All straight forward, and no queries. For Ted Debayer..The UK does not have fiancee visas. It does have marriage visas, which give the person permission to marry in UK, not stay in UK. That is something seperate.Lolitta2 ..what you write is siomply not true. The UK has not limited visas for non EU at all. In fact there are more than ever. What it has done is to tighten checks to ensure that those that come here will leave before their visa expires, and that is popular with the public.

Adrianagtl:

Hi joneeboyUK... I got here by coincidende in search for some answers... Im from Peru, applying for the visitor visa to do the same thing you and your girlfriend (now wife) did, visit UK, meet boyfriend friends and be together for a couple of months then come back and apply for the fiance visa (now they have a fiance visa), my problem/fear is that I dont have the funds to stay there for 3 months and no bank statements, however my boyfriend does, and he can support my whole stay including the flight tickets. We are sending his invitation letter saying he will support for three months along with the confirmation of our 3 year relationship where he was the one visiting me, p60s, last pay slip, passport copy and 2 letters of my actual employers saying that I not only work for them but also have shares of the company. Do you think I could have a problem with this? Thank you!

Hi mate,
I am from Birmingham, well off course it is your right to take your GF to UK but you have to fulfil the visa criteria, currently the UK government put the cap on immigration due to rising number of immigrants in UK.
Even you marry to her in China, you have to prove that you have minimum earnings of 18600 GBP annually and you have sufficient place for her accommodation in UK, you will not depend on public funds and then she has to pass one English test before applying for spouse visa.
If you can fulfil the criteria nobody will stop you for bringing your GF to UK.

Look mate do not take me wrong I lived in China for 2 years, to be honest with you majority of the Chinese girls they are looking for an escape window from China and for that they hunt boys from developed world so they can run from China and claim western passport , that absolutely doesn’t mean all Chinese girls are like that and neither I am offending you, this is one of the reason that UK stricter their visa policy.
Regards
Jazz

i think its best to wait a few years, with the economy problem, even the students cant stay after they graduate,

i think after everything goes back to normal they wil start letting people in again and giving all kind of people working visas like before,
