sorry but I don't get what's so special about a giant, inflatable duck floating on lake in Beijing. So what? Have people not seen anything more exciting? I'm seriously! I don't get the hype!

It is probably one of the few left over from 1989 (ask Traveler for details).
China claimed something never happened, there were no tanks. Another story says the images of Tankman and the tanks was banned. Some jolly joker Photoshopped giant rubber ducks instead of tanks in the photo.
Since then, the duck has been a symbol of rebellion, and is absolutely hated by the CCP. I believe it is actually banned. It is a source of international ridicule that China feels threatened by a rubber duck.
Some ducks on expat forums are encouraged by the CCP, and hated by everyone else.
NO!, it's fun and my kid loves it, if you think it's over hyped then it must be a hard person to please.
China has the biggest bathtub duck in the world, a source of national pride. More people need to learn the theme song .
Rubber Duckie you're the one,
You make bathtime lots of fun,
Rubber Duckie I'm awfully fond of you
Vo-vo-dee-o!
Rubber Duckie, joy of joys,
When I squeeze you, you make noise,
Rubber Duckie you're my very best friend it's true.
Oh, every day when I, make my way to the tubby
I find a little fellow who's cute and yellow and chubby!
Rub-a-dub-dubby!
Rubber Duckie you're so fine,
And I'm lucky that you're mine,
Rubber Duckie, I'd love a whole pond of,
Rubber Duckie, I'm awfully fond of you!

I haven't seen much hype about it, no rubber duck sightings here down south.
I've never seen it, but it sure beats the little rubber ducky that you usually put in your bathtub when you are about to take a bath.
i cant believe there's a artist that's taking credit for it. I mean he's just copied his rubber duck as a kid and super enlarged it. Now he calls himself a "Artist"
