Hi there,
I'm going to Beijing next week for the first time ever. I'm just going to spend 2-3 days there but I would like to ask some for some advice:
- Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square. What else is worth visiting?
- Good and cheap hotels to stay? 200RMB/night maximum.
- Where can I do some shopping? I'm looking to buy a new laptop.
- Comparing to for example Shenzhen or Guangzhou, is Beijing more expensive?
- WHERE'S THE NICE AND DELICIOUS FOOD!?!?!!?

seven days inn has 2 hotels right off the subway line that i have stayed by booking on website for 177 a day.
take line 5 beijing south train station south two stops , one hotel is 40 meters from exit , the other is 200 meters away. very convenient for traveling and many restaurants around.
You have to see the Great Wall also. There are many other sites, Temple of Paradise. One temple complex I saw wasn't even old (that might have been Xi'an) I booked a private tour went first class/ 5 star. For that I had my own driver and guide, breakfast and lunch ( more food than I could eat) included, they picked me up at the airport and took me to the train station and had to wait with me until I got on the train. The service was excellent. You can have dinners and shows also. I didn't think it was expensive. I used this site, it'll give you some more ideas. http://www.beijingholiday.com/?gclid=CIGktcvpurcCFc1cMgodEkIAlg
I like the Summer Palace and Temple of Heaven for outdoorsy stuff and the National Center for the Performing arts for modern architecture stuff.
If you're interested in good Chinese food, I think that the Beixinqiao area is pretty good. If you're interested in good(ish) foreign food, try Sanlitun Village or the Gulou area.
You can get a new laptop at one of the electronics markets located in Haidianhuangzhuan.
Hotels I don't know, sorry.
Save shopping for HK, if you can. HK prices are at least 20% lower than mainland prices.
I save all 'heavy' shopping for the end of the Summer HK visit.
You can look for Beijing Hotels online:

Unfortunately waiting for an opportunity to go to HK is not going to work for me. My laptop got stolen and I'm in urgent need of a new laptop.
As for the links, thanks. I'm having a look but everything seems to be a bit over my budget. (I wanted to find a room relatively close to the Beijing West Station)

There is a Hotel or Hostel, there. I stayed in few weeks ago, for 130 Rmb per night.
It is on the other side of the street, opposite of the Railway Station. Sorry, I don't recall the name. There are less than 10 hotels in vicinity of West Railway Station. You might walk around, and ask for the prices for overnight stay.
I am guessing, you could find budget Hotels on Agoda. I'll look later.
The best advice I can give is turn left at Tianjin if you are coming from the south or turn right at Tianjin if you are coming from the north.
Hostels in Beijing from 50 Rmb up!
