Q: Going to Thailand

I will be leaving China before the end of the month. My Chinese visa expires on Jan. 31st, and I will be going to Thailand for a month. I am running into some problems trying to get the cheapest flights, however I found a good combination, but it would require me to stay in Thailand for 32 days. (I will be travelling from China to Thailand, then Thailand back home to Canada.

Because I am Canadian I can legally stay in Thailand for 30 days with no visa, as a tourist. My understanding is that you have to show them proof of your plane ticket leaving to your home country. My question is will they give me trouble if I want to stay for 32 days? I read that I can get an extension of the tourist visa if my travel plans change, but in this case, I would be entering the country on the assumption that I can stay longer than 30 days.

If anyone has any experience dealing with travel in Thailand, or resources I could sift through, your input would be greatly appreciated.

You can't arrive in Bangkok with a departure flight 32 days after, you will not be allowed in.

But there are a few things you can do:

1.- The most logical one is to go to a Thai Embassy and get a tourist visa.  Less headaches, and no problems or worries.

2.- Go online and book a flight with a departure less than 30 days, Print it and then cancel it. Once inside Thailand, go to an Immigration Office 15 days prior to departure and complete a notification of two days extra stay, if granted you can stay.  Penalty for overstaying is 2,000 Bha per day, 4,000 if caught by Police.

See website below for details:

3.- Go in with a fake return ticket, and once inside, after a couple of weeks, leave Thailand at a border station and enter a neighbor country (or take a tour with a travel agency).  Once you enter Thailand again, your number of days goes back to 1, and you can have your 32 days there.

Or... just leave the country for a few days! Take a trip to Vietnam, Malaysia or Cambodia or somewhere... I'd suggest, if taking this sane route, print out an itinerary to show the guys at the border when you enter!

A combination of what Happy and Shining said - find a cheapass ticket to Malaysia or Cambodia then decide when you're there if you will use it (if not just cancel it).

Thailand wont grant an extension of a tourist visa?

If you go to Northern Thailand, you can go to Vientiane Laos for a few days, get another 30 days and go south.
