Q: Good date restaurant Guangzhou

Hi, Can anyone recommend a good date restaurant in Guangzhou?

Trying to think of something with more unique, local flavor but even really nice chinese restaurants are better for groups than a couple out on a date. There are the obvious, super western upscale places like Liede, TKH, etc and those are fine but just trying to think of something more interesting.

Price isn't an issue. just trying to show a good time.

thanks

I know restaurant in Jianou, Fujian, where they cook everything with dates.

In my opinion, that's the best date restaurant in China.

I loved, buTT... I should stay away of sweets.

I want extra jacketangel with 'eChina-titties' inscribed on the back.

is she Chinese?  then go Western,,  u know, a place she probably doesn't go to often.

try McCawley's Irish Pub,,,  I luv'd it,,, they call it up-scale pub fare I think, but it's good enough and a great location,,  then stroll on that big city plaza after dinner and enjoy the awesome views of Canton Tower at night...

*bring plenty of Do Re Mi ~  wink

I don't know about a restaurant but I did buy some good dates from a lovely woman from Xinjiang. She told me they were grown in her hometown.

I would head towards Canton Place, between Tuncun and Leide metros. There is a selection of eateries there. Bocca is my favourite. Western food. Very nice steak.

Canton place is an enclosed circular plazza.  Couple of bars, lots of decent restaurants. And it's away from the road so it's quiet. No loud music blaring from every shop front.  The wife and I go there a couple of times a month.

As Diverdude says, McCawleys is pretty good too. But I prefer Canton place because there is more choice.

Oggies Pizza is well good if you want Pizza. Also in Canton Place.

ScotsAlan:

Oh. If you fancy a curry, Little India on Huali Road, just down from Wu Yang Cun Metro.

Excellent. Intimate little place, great food and superb service. And it's just around the corner from Macawleys if you want a beer afterwards. Or you can cross the road and head to "The Strand" if you want some craft beer.

The strand is good. A good bar for talking. But be careful, the beer is strong.

oh, I miss The Strand!,,,  do they still have that over-priced but delicious Onion-ring Tower?

*ok,,, over-priced might be unfair,,, it's just I'm a cheapskate...  haha,,, can't help it,,, social conditioning.

Yup. The Strand is good. The problem is finding it. I have to walk around in circles til I see something I recognise.

Onion tower?  Don't know. But they have Jenka.

Hotwater:

Scots means Jenga but Jenka is how you say it in Gallic!

I don't ever remember the Strand doing onion rings. It's always been "hand-crafted" pizzas in there since it opened.

@hot -  yeah,,, I may have my places confused... I'm thinking of the real little bar about a 10 minute stroll south of mccawleys... hidden in the tree-lined street...  white walls... small place,,, seem to remember the Jenga on about every table though... heck,,, I may be putting 2 memories together.. been a few years ago since I was there ~
