Q: Good place to buy kites in Beijing?
Quite a specific question I know but I'm wondering if you can help me - I used to be into kiting back home (power kiting that is) and loved nothing more than heading up the downs on a windy day and getting my face blown to oblivion. It was really windy here the other day (which was great for the pollution) and I just wished I had a power kite to make the most of it. I see kiting is quite popular in China given all the people in parks with kites, so there must be somewhere good to get one.
You can find kites everywhere. And I haven't seen stores selling them, but I have seen parks that had them for sale inside the park and sometimes outside the park. I've also seen people selling good looking quality kites on the streets. They usually hang them up for display on a line. I'm not sure how much it is either, but it shouldn't be too expensive.
Power kiting, ok, I was afraid you meant just those regular little, one-string kites with a pretty little tail. I saw a guy of about thirty running along pulling one the other day and there wasn't a kid or even a girlfriend in sight. It was just wrong. Just wrong. But no, sorry, dunno where to get a kite.
