Q: good products to get rid of bad smells ?

So recently I've had some problems with my apartment smelling really bad. It comes from the bathroom. We can't figure out why it's smelling, we've scrubed the whole bathroom down and keep it very clean but it still smells very bad.  Personally I think it's a problem with ventalation in the bathroom and after taking showers it just gets too humid/wet in there and the water probably not being very clean leaves a bad odor.

Anyways it's really getting annoying lately so I'd like to find some good products in China to help mask bad smells. I've tried some air freshensers at the local grocery store but they weren't that good.

Anyone have any suggestions on chinese branded products (or imported products if they aren't too expensive) ?

Go to the candle store the kind that has a scent. You can use that and let it burn in the bathroom for awhile and you should notice the difference from nasty smell to fresh smell.

The smell might be coming from the drain pipe. In China, they actually install the pipes outside of the walls, so when someone from the upper floors does a big poop, it can get smelly in your bathroom. Lighting up a match can help

I have window in the bathroom open all the time. Drains must be covered with drain covers, except when you are taking shower or using washing machine. I must take off drain covers, because drains don't 'swallow' water fast enough during heavy 'water' use.

Make water runs over all drains often during the day.

I am often thinking, why Chinese don't copy ordinary things like this is from the West.

I am in the brand new apartment, and if somebody would lay tiles the same way in the West, he or she would be put in the jail.

Chinese are not aware of the building tool with (German) name 'wasserwaage'? I am not sure what is correct English name. Maybe 'spirit level'?

wasser = water; 'waage' = scale.

It is simple tool with the small valve, containing water and bubble of air in it. When you lay 'wassserwaage' on the floor or wall, or anywhere else (bridge, road, refrigerator, and so forth), it shows you if it is correctly leveled, or 'straight' ( 0*). It is tool as often used as screwdriver or hammer.
If you want to direct water toward the drain, you must use 'wasserwaage'. In the West, we use 'wasserwaage' at almost any handwork, but at knitting and sawing. However, Chinese are very proud of the compass. Rant over.

Scandinavian:

the word you are looking ofr is probably "siphon-flush-valve"

No it is not 'flusher', butt... I need that too!

'Wasserwaage' is very simple wooden or metal tool, 3 x 3 x 40 cm long. Some are thicker and longer than 100cm. Size depends at what kind of work you will use it. Small ones are for woodwork, and bigger ones are for the construction work.

Inside the tool is small, glass valve, filled with the water. Inside the valve must be room for small bubble of air, too. Closed valve is inserted horizontally inside the tool. When tool lays on the perfect horizontal surface (0* degrees), air bubble is the middle of the valve. If L side of the tool is higher than R side, water bubble moves to the L side of the valve, and opposite.

If you want water on the bathroom floor runs toward the drain, you must make ground by the wall (opposite of drain) a bit higher than the base of the drain, 1 or 2 m away. To measure that, you must use 'wasserwaage', and lay tiles accordingly.

Other German name for it is 'libelle', translator says 'dragonfly'.

Thanks, Dave! I thought, name could be 'spirit level', butt...I never heard any other name than German 'wassserwaage'. I called 'spirit level' in my reply, butt..again, Scandinavian suggested 'toilet flusher' instead, so I wasn't sure if 'spirit level' is correct English name.

I am convinced, Chinese are not familiar with that simple device, anywhere I look.

It seems that the Chinese plumbing in many cases does not include a" P" trap. The "P' trap creates a water barrier between the sink etc and the sewer. If you are able to install a "P" trap without having to dig up the floor, do it. If not you need to cover the drain when not in use. Also you may try pouring baking soda down the drain?
