I find it to be significantly more friendly, personally. And, unlike other cities, friendly people are willing to talk to me about something other than being a foreigner.

I don't know why this would be true... and are you referring to the locals, or the expat community?

Not that I've really experienced a lot of China, but I like it here. The locals seem pretty cool (well, where I work), I don't get stared at as much - which does, unfortunately, mean I don't get rock-star treatment... There is more money here, so there are higher expectations ... and you just become another face in the crowd (mostly).

I can't say I've experienced any unfriendliness, other than the usual rudeness that people have here of needing to kill at least 3 people before getting onto a bus.

Actually, now that I think of it, I believe it's the only place I've been where taxis and buses have actually stopped at a pedestrian crossing BEFORE someone has stepped onto it, to allow them to cross!!!

come to nanchang you'd think hangzhou was the nicest place on earth. i cant comment on the people in hangzhou never been there but nanchang people are rude as hell

Shining_brow:

That's because of all the capital cities in the provinces in China, Nanchang is about the worst! And everyone knows it.

Btw, I used to be up the road in Jiujiang, so I made the trip down a couple of times. Can't say I was really impressed, but that was really the area around the train station down to Metro
