Happy Easter .
now i have to explain to my kids that it is not just a day to gorge chocolate eggs and bunny.'s
Do you try to explain to your students?
Do they even know that it is Easter?
I hope you have a better Good Friday than Jesus and the other 2 guys.
I'll just hang around.

I presented the topic of Easter to a staff meeting yesterday, from what I considered to be a historical POV. Audience of 20+ HS English teachers. Basically got blank looks like they couldn't give a fk. I think that they are overworked, underpaid, and the last thing they want to do is sit through another meeting. I am also being nice and pretending like they can understand what I am saying. For English teachers I have never met such a group that couldn't seem to understand much oral English.
*after my presentation the big boss came and lectured them, oooops, I meant droned on, for 25+ minutes straight.

one of my wife's friends is married to an Engkish teacher. This Chinese guy teaches high school English. Met him a few times now and I struggle to have a conversation with the guy as his English is awful!

I did the same Mr diverdue. I tried to keep it light but (foolishly) went into the pagan history and nicean council as well. That just opened a whole can of worms that was hard to explain without getting too complicated.
WOW!.....these comments are sad! You are mocking the most celebrated day on any calendar. Chocolate and bunny rabbits are nice to gather the kids around, but its a day to celebrate the return of Jesus Christ to life following his death or known as Christ's resurrection.
As as you become adults we refer to it as "Resurrection Day".
Sadly, unbelievers don't acknowledge God's goodness, though they benefit from it every day. They do not honor Him as God or give Him thanks.
How sad to see such ingratitude, yet God does care for us all and supplies our every need.
Don't ever take His provisions for granted! Always look to Him daily and receive His gifts with a thankful heart.
You should be more generous with your praise for God's abundant blessings.
To those of you who are trying to discover through your teaching, the bible will teach you how to pray. Apply His Word to every situation you may encounter (even if you get blank looks). Its important to speak out, the Lord has plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans that will give you hope and a future.
Eggs all over my place, however I run out of water .....
Let see what Darwin said about that ......
It makes me happy to see so many people around the world celebrate this old Scandinavian tradition.

Then you should be happy to know that the most response I received from my audience was when I related how Easter undoubtedly finds it's origins in Eostre. They seemed to relate to that, I guess because of the ancient nature of the idea, or maybe because, well, I don't know, but they did liven up a bit when I put up the following pic on the smartboard.
In my country it's celebration of the spring return.
On top of that men are making kind of sticks from the fresh willow wickers and on Easter Monday noon time beat women.
Women in exchange gave them colored eggs. Long time ago one of my Americans female friends quickly left the country just a day after Easter
The habit originates in pagan times and it's believed that the fresh willow wickers will give to women its youth and beauty.
In my country Easter does not have much to do with Jesus ...
Nessquick:
yes, but the true origin is that it's a festival of fertility. the "pomlazka" we use is a phalic symbol and the act is symbolizing the coitus. the egg girls gave us is mean their egg which is fertilized by our action of beating their butt... That's all about that :)
Vesele Velikonoce :)
I do not mind discussing religion in the classroom, as long as there is some context to the material we are studying. Although I am a Christian, I do keep my faith separate from the classroom. Outside of the classroom, I have had many discussions about my faith. Happy Resurrection Day everyone. He lives!
