Q: Hard to buy train tickets

Has anyone noticed recently it has been really hard to buy express train tickets online. They all seem to be sold out. It is really annoying. I haven't had this any other year just this year. I have only tried tickets to Liaoning from Tianjin. I was curious if they are constantly sold out anywhere else?

Perhaps it's the peak season? School holidays are still on and people are still traveling a lot.

Lord_hanson:

That is what I thought. It is just the last few years I have not had this problem. The tickets are really hard to come by now.

Yeah, and the cancelation of many flights means more people will be taking trains tha usual. Funny how they plan war games right in the middle of school holidays.

There is going to be that moon cake eating holiday soon. Also students are traveling back to their school after the summer vacation.

Lord_hanson:

I usually buy train tickets (at the counter) 12 days before the trip. That's the day, when tickets are first time available, and you're able to purchase 'sleeper'.

If I go to the counter later, I'm always 'prepared' for 'hard seat', doesn't matter holidays or no.

And if you ever have some experience of life in China, you would know that the website to do that is overcrowded to the max before holidays, making it sluggish as hell.

Tell me about it. I usually drive the long distances now but sometimes I need to take the train. I guess driving is a lot easier especially during spring festival. I do not miss the train journeys.

I had this problem last month. I wanted to get the train from GZ to Guilin but all trains were fully booked. All train routes from GZ were full for the next 20 days.

We ended up having to fly.  Shame really, because I enjoy the overnight train to Guilin.
