Q: Has any Chinese company really gone global?

Many Chinese companies operate in other third world countries and sanctioned countries, but these account for very little of the global market. For example, in retail, US accounts for about 30% of the world market, yet there are no Chinese companies operating there that I know of. Yet many global giants such as Wal-Mart and Tesco operate in China.

Electronics companies such as Huawei prefer to exclude themselves from the US and other markets by selling to sanctioned countries like Iran, and by conducting espionage work for the Chinese government. Yet they count themselves as global giants because the government have eliminated much of the competition in China.

Are there any truly global Chinese companies, operating big time across all developed countries, or will there ever be any such companies?

Does HSBC count? Founded in Hong Kong/Shanghai.

Traveler:

Nope. It's a British company, founded in the British colony of Hong Kong in the late 1800s. It transferred its HQ to London around 1990, before HK transferred to China. I think a lot of HK companies did the same. Apparently China was quite surprised by that, and perhaps a little angry. ... Shift+R improves the quality of this image. Scandinavian:

HSBC founded in Hong Kong during British rule. Today it has its headquarters in London and is a British company.

They are also not that present in China. If you compare the number of branch offices to banks such as Bank of China, ICBC etc. then there is big cap.

Haier now sells their products in the USA, Indonesia, India and the Middle East.. That's the only one I can think of offhand. However they don't sell in Europe thus they are arguably not global.

I am no sure you can disqualify Huawei for not selling in US. No company operates on all continents (unless the Penguins on the south pole have gotten into smart phones or something)

Huawei actually sells their handsets in many countries, the US "problems" for them originates from network infrastructure products.

I assume the question is if any Chinese company has gotten market notoriety like Nokia or Coca Cola. In that case, I do not know of any Chinese companies that has achieved this
