I'm in Shanghai and traveled to many cities here and I've never seen a drive throw restaurant, coffee shop or bank,
have you seen one in your travels in China?
I know of one in Beijing. It is near Beijing South Railway Station maccas drive thru
Drive through bank? I've never even heard of a drive through bank. But to answer your question, I haven't seen a drive through either.

Drive-up teller windows and ATM's are very common in the US.....

I thought it might be an American thing, I didn't think anyone was weird enough to make it up.

haha, its true, Ive tried them, not bad. Dont know why, but in Texas there are lots of drive thru liquor stores.
Ive seen a few McDonalds drive-thrus.They were in Dalian and outside of Hangzhou, none of them were in downtown/business districts.
It will never work.
Lets say you go to the traditional McDonalds drive through.
1) The driver needs to be able to actually maneuver the vehicle through a narrow piece of road
2) It will not be possible to place an order due to the noise from the honking car behind
3) There would be the need for having staff outside to hand food from the window to the car, that would be too far away.
4) People would try to reverse to get back to the ordering window
5) people from back of the queue would try to get their order in first by yelling
6) there would be a snowballs chance in hell you would get the food you ordered
7) eating in your car means no one will see you are cultured enough to eat foreign food so there is no face building
I have not seen a drive thru in China, but have heard they exist ... In Fort St. John BC, Canada, if you want a Tim Horton's coffee, you can join the 24 hour long line-up and wait about 15 cars/15minutes and get a coffee or donut that is also available across the street at the gas station without waiting..........
drive thru fast food, banking, liquor, insurances, and companions are all available in Canada.
I have driven into a bakery several times and a noodle place. I just wish electric scooters could do power turns. I've done drive-by dating many times, you see you at 6, you at 7, you at 8 bring a friend.
Drive-Thrus? In China.......they're everywhere.
1. Drive thru sidewalks
2. Drive thru pedestrian crossings
3. Drive thru red and yellow lights
4. Drive thru parking lots to avoid the lights
I'm sure there are more
I have never seen, but i know there are some drive restaurants.
Seen a drive-thru Mcdonalds in Fuzhou, on the in the university area.
I know of one McDonalds in Foshan that has a drive-up, in fact 2 drive-up lanes for the same store. Lines are always long for it. I believe some shops in Guangzhou south in Panyu have some drive-thru's, in the northern Panyu area where the roads and commercial areas are very American-like with parking lots and individual stores.
There is a drive thru in Beijing... if you really want to see it I will give you the bus route to take and where you can take the bus and bus number.
Get off at subway stop baobaoshan. take bus number 951 keep going on that route until you see the drive thru. It's a long ride, but if you really want to see one take this bus number until you pass the mcdonalds drive-thru.
There is a KFC located at the side of the apartment building where I live. It is set up for both eating in the restaurant and also has the facilities for being a drive through. In two and a half years since the restaurant was built, I have never seen anybody use the drive through facility. I would be surprised if it is even manned.
I wonder if we have drive though gun shops where you can buy a AK47 with two full magazines to shoot poor dear that cant shoot back. If they could I would call that sport? Franck3
I've never understood the fascination with drive-thrus. If you're going to take the food home and eat, ok, but why drive thru and order your 'meal' from a hole in the wall and then sit in your car in the car park (stinking it out in the process) to eat your meal, when there is a perfectly good restaurant with tables to eat inside?
There's a drive thru McDonalds in Dalian close to IBM in ShaHeKou. I never see many cars use it though - think most people eat in the restaurant area.
