Q: Has anyone ever been to one of the huge saunas in China?

I have been taken a few times to a sauna and found it quite an experience. Was first asked by one my partners male relos. After he asks her if we would like to go, she then says to me " are you ok being nude around men" My answer "of course I played team sports and we had to shower afterwards". I really had no idea what to expect as we all rocked up to this huge building with statues and a very inpressive facade. Inside and we said our goodbyes as the 3 girls went off in one direction and I headed in the other with the husband of her young niece, our host for the day. He is unable to speak a word of English so it was just, he points I follow. OIff with the cloths and into a locker and then followed him into this huge hall about the size of a basketball court with a huge heated spa pool and all sorts of water jets and high pressure body blasters. After half a hour in there with around 30 or so others he points me to another room. Masseurs are there and they give me this full body scrub with some sort of citrusy liquid and a head rub as well. Into a shower and back to a heated outside pool for a bit of cold outside then hot in the pool experience, then a stint in the hottest sauna I have ever felt. Another shower and slipped into a pair of PJ's and into an elevator to the 5th floor to meet up with the girls for an incredible buffet feast. So many things to try that In had never seen before. After the food and a couple of beers we all jump into the elevator and go to another floor and into a room with 5 or 6 recliners and big screen TV's in front of each. In come 2 massage girls and 3 men and we get a foot neck and head massage each and then while I relax over another beer or 2 and watch a movie the girls get a manicure. We were in there for about 3-4 hours and it was a sensational experience and one that I would never have imagined that I would have had. The splendor of the design and decor of the place was unbelievable from my Aussie background. This one was in an Egyptian theme but I have since been to others that were Balinese style and one that was futuristic with lazers and lights etc.

I went to one where the attendant stands beside you, hanging up your clothes in your locker while you get naked. Oh yeah that's right, this place was so fancy that they have people who's sole job is to help you get naked.

Yeah, there's a great one in Beijing called water world or something by Dongzhimen station. I admit, I wasn't too high on the idea at first, but afterwards was all for it.

Just been again tonight to a different and slightly smaller place. Shenyang has so many of these. My partner and her friend wanted to go and so I just tagged along. They told the attendant what I wanted and we went our seperate ways. After a plunge in the spa pool and another visit to the hotest sauna imaginable, I was given the full body scrub. Into the PJ's and up the steps to a huge room filled with great giant recliners. maybe around 40 or 50 each with a little TV. Some people just sleeping other getting a massage. After relaxing for 30 mins or so I was supprised that on the small stage at the front there was some entertainment in the form of a magic act. Quite good actualy. We then went into a large communal sauna with mats to lay on and a Japanese type setting. One was quite hot and then into another that was less hot with low tables and stools. The 3 of us hung around in there for an hour or so and drunk tee and played Chinese Checkers. Very relaxing afternoon. I am getting to like this local tradition. Not even sure how much it was as my partners friend insisted on paying.

All of the above are available, almost compulsory.
Male attendant to help you undress and shower, and great massage for several hours with a girl who nearly cried when it was over, as she related it to her friends in the passageway. ;-o
A truely memorable experience! B-)
