Q: Has anyone ever heard of or worked for EIE (Education in English)?

"EIE(Education In English) is a Canadian college English program credited by Chinese universities and licensed by the Chinese government (license # SAFEA 049) since 1988. EIE, a professional Canadian team, has been offering the unique opportunity for native English teachers to teach at Chinese universities and make life-long friends with the Chinese people for 28 years."

They say they are affiliated with universities, but your contract will be with them.

And this was in the contract: "The Teacher also understands that Education In English Ltd.(EIE) is an agent authorized by  the Chinese government to recruit teachers for schools in China, EIE is not the employer of the Teacher,  it will be not responsible for any legal responsibilities on the matter of employment."

Sounds fishy to me. Anyone heard of them before?

There's nothing on Yahoo-gle with 'Education in English' or 'EIE' in search, what is very fishy considering outfit is operating since....

Another fishy thing is word 'education' in outfit's title.

Have a look at Yahoo-gle and you'll find brazillion web links, but none for the School or Agency.

There's some trick with 'license.....' too, but displayed license probably only guarantee joint can hire foreigners and sponsor Z/extend RP.

'Affiliated with any Western Uni .....' is very loose term, because any School can hold the same 'affiliation', but in real there's Chinese books and programs sales-person in Canada, who either buys real books from some obscure library, reprint them and resale books to the Schools in China with 'affiliated....' title attached.

EIE is most likely Placement agency (my guess).

Have a look at Dave's Cafe, if there's any thread opened there on this outfit. Search at Dave's is GOOG powered, so I didn't come far, after I look for the threads on EIE.
