I know someone that's about to do this, departing Pusan and arriving in Seattle. I'm curious if anyone here has ever traveled by freighter ship home and what they thought of the experience. From what I can tell, it would take about 2 weeks and cost about 1200 euro (for transport, housing and food). Call me crazy but I think it sounds pretty cool. I've also heard that "repositioning cruises" are another way to go, though I don't know much about them.

I had a high school classmate who worked one summer on a repositioning cruise and he had a BLAST!
Years later, he took a really slow freighter ship when he settled down to write his PhD dissertation and said it was awesome. Got a lot of work done, with almost no distractions and when he arrived to his destination he posted his dissertation back to the school. having worked (very briefly) as a sailor himself, the rest of the crew treated him well.
I have wanted to do something like that myself! for a long time!!!

Yeah, I haven't been able to stop thinking about doing this since I heard about it a few weeks back. Even though it's totally not cost effective and takes forever to do, there's just something to old-world-y about it that intrigues me.
we can do that kind of services

Oh Snap!! Is that true? I am planning to go home to visit family next week. I would be so excited to take a boat back instead of flying. It would be AWESOMENESS!!
That actually sounds worth it just so I could have room to pack enough real socks from home to China. These things have holes after 3 hours of use. Plus you would have fun imagining everything turning Life of Pi
