Q: Has anyone ever used their yikatong transport card to pay for a taxi?

Apparantly, Beijing taxis are equipped with the means to swipe your yikatong card to pay for the fare, similar to a credit card. Every time I've tried this payment method, they tell me it's not possible. Has anyone ever paid a taxi fare this or is it just a big PR hoax?

I tried once too but was also turned down. I have yet to meet one person who's actually managed to pay with their yikatong.

I find that really odd. Why do they say it's possible when no taxi driver accepts it? Maybe it's just like the smoking ban...great in theory, but not enforced in reality.

It is possible, but you have to have enough money on the card to pay it all off. If your taxi fare was 10 kuai and you don't have 10 kuai in your card of course it's not gonna work. All taxis don't have the swipe card method to pay for your taxi fare. Usually there will be a sign in the taxi letting you know if you can swipe it. There shouldn't be a problem. The only problem I had was they said they were running out of paper to print the receipt.

I too have never been able to pay that way, even when the fare is in the 20's and my card is much more than that. My guess, PR stunt.
