Mianyang is a high-tech (and other industries) city with easy access to Chengdu by superhighway.  Mianyang and the surrounding area did sustain damage during the big earthquake several years.  The city literally straddles a fault line.  Some foreign teachers quite like Mianyang and others find it plastic, dirty, etc., etc.  Reviews are very, very mixed.  Often, it's a catch-all kind of a city for those teacher who could not get the better jobs in Chengdu.  The climate is Sichuan gray-and-wet.  I would not call blue skies overly abundant in the region but perhaps things have changed.

The Mianyang Foreign Language School has a good name as a matter of fact.  You will absolutely, and I mean absolutely, need to determine what your living arrangements will be as that has been an object of contention in the past.  The locals are generally affable and more-or-less outgoing, like so many Sichuan folk, but the city really, really errs on the side of blue-collar as opposed to Chengdu. The students in the school pay comparatively top-dollar (or top-RMB) to go there and while they are supposedly a bright lot, I think that you will really probably find that they are simply a richer lot, nothing more, nothing less.

Once you have your living arrangements fully settled and settled to provide you with a certain level of comfort, it is really not a bad choice, depending again whether or not you will be in the primary school, the junior middle and middle school, etc, et.

All the best to you.

I worked at the school for one month.  The head of the program disappeared after one week.  I was fired without explanation, perhaps they closed the program.  I was paid no salary, not reimbursed for my out-of-pocket travel expenses, my personal property was not returned, and forced to leave the country in 10 days.  Other teachers have had problems with these people.

The school and it's students are great. The locals are kind and try to be helpful. Beware of any outside company sending you because they might cheat you and make you sorry you came.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change student visa to labourer one is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
