Q: Has anyone in Harbin received a large mortgage with chinese and foreign names on contract?

bought home with both names on house/mortgage contract, now officials won't give ownership papers (red book) until we pay off mortgage, stating gov't does not allow 100k mortgage to be granted to foreigner.

I'm not in Harbin but I have mortgage elsewhere and its 700K. I'm a foreigner and my name and earnings are stated on the paperwork with loads of red thumb prints.

Sounds like Harbin authorities are making things up as they go along.

The amount that can be lent as a mortgage is up to the bank lending you the money, so this doesn't make much sense at all.

I know non-Chinese with a much bigger mortgage than 100k. It might be a Harbin or HLJ thing but it's more likely to be officials getting flustered when they see a foreigner. Try a different person on a different day and you'll probably get a different answer!

I have a mortgage of 400K kuai with Postal Bank at Fangcheng Gang on both names without a problem. The real estate agent negotiated with he Bank, paid a 2K bribe to someone there, and mortage approval was granted to me. The building is right on the sand, 50 meters off the water of South China Sea, on 32 floor, with a great view, and very exotic sunsets. Very nice vacation home or holiday getaway place.

yeah a 100K mortgage is like $15K usd.

I don't care who you are if you are an expat you can save that in a year of hard work easily. So even if they won't loan it to you just save it up.

kjd:

sorry i meant 100,000 dollars.  The woman responsible for preparing the papers for the apartment complex is holding the paper because a gov't official stated we shouldn't have been given such a large mortgage.  The ultimatum given to me is either find a foreigner in Harbin who has been granted such a large mortgage, or pay it off completely.

HLJ is a different world (well China is a different world to but different again to Heilongjiang )

it took the 3 days and a lot of Bullshit about my Drivers licence (car not truck)

For some strange reason the officials think we are incapable of knowing more than them

If there is no money in it for them it cant happen

however there are more ways than 1 to skin a cat (sorry admin)

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change student visa to labourer one is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
