Q: Has anyone here joined Couch Surfing in China?
Were your experiences good? Is it safe to do (both hosting and staying with others?
From a master of couch surfing I find the experience less than fulfilling.
1st thing that you need a very comfy couch (sofa for our U.S friends) and the ones in China are built for looks more than reclining.
Secondly you need multi sports on TV and watching ping pong, tennis, gymnastics and local soccer and basketball just don't cut the mustard.
Third ingredient is plenty of cold beer and in China this gets a tick because the beer is cheap and larger bottles bottle size means you don't need to get up to go to the fridge as often. Although the weaker strength probably suggests you need to drink more and so you will piss more resulting in this being only a borderline tick until the formula (Getting up from the lounge = number of beers drunk + number of pisses required) is explored more.
Last but not least you need to focus on the couch potato skills and this needs either peace and quiet or mates who can drink and join you in abuse of bad refereeing etc by yelling at the TV. Getting asked to constantly help to sort the beans, peel some garlic, or being disturbed by others yelling loudly at each other or into a phone in a language you don't understand too well detracts from the ambiance of setting and stops you being carried away to that special higher state of mind and body that a great session of couch surfing can take you to.

Maybe I did. Couch surfing had similar meaning to couch potato when and where I grew up. But yeah I get what the meaning is to you guys.i

Nah, here couch surfing means to stay on a stranger's couch. There's a website set up where people can find each other and then give feedback (i.e. this person is lovely and enriched my visit to their country; this person is crazy; this person is fun...)
Many have asked me, but I just dont feel comfortable with strangers in my home.
I was hoping to couch surf @ yaya's for a week while in Beijing.

My friend in Xian hosted a number of couch surfers and we used to go out with them and show them around. I think you've just got to find the right couch and it shouldn't be a problem. Also look at the host's reviews and that will give you a good idea of what they are like.
I just joined couch Surfing. But the weird part is that if you don't speak a common language, I don't think it won't match you with surfers. So you'll mostly be staying with other expats.
