Q: Has anyone read any good short stories in Chinese?

I'm trying to read more Chinese fiction but I read so slowly that I lack the motivation to finish a whole novel. The only Chinese "book" I've ever actually read to completion was Yu Hua's To Live, which was fine but it's hard to get more recommendations as I don't have many Chinese friends who really understand my reading level. So I thought I'd try to get into short stories (短篇小说) because I really like those in English anyway, especially twisty ones like Roald Dahl's or Shirley Jackson's. Baidu Baike recommended a few classic 短篇小说 but I thought I'd ask other expats before I dive right in. Any recommendations?

Once upon a time there was a country named China.

It is a very old and un-civilized country.

They have many babies and grow very big.

So they start fights over uninhabited islands where Nemo lives.

And eat lots of rice and speak poor engrisssh.

THE END.
