I saw an article recently well not that recent but it said that Chinese nationals like winners. ANd Lebron moving to a winning team will help his chances of selling more jerseys etc., Has it made an impact here so far. I think so but what do you say? I know Kobe is big here, but will Lebron surpass the Sellout name that is Kobe Bryant? For the Win! Yes it's china related it's related to jersey sales in CHina and the popularity.
It was Jordan long before Kobe. Yao Min was number one before Kobe as well. Kobe had his time in the sun and will soon be replaced my Lebron James - maybe within 6 months.

Who ever is the most hyped in the USA will get the same treatment in China. Lebron is the current MVP and with his athleticism and skill set will be the merchandise king for quite a while. The fact that he dropped a large chunk of salary to go to the Heat in search of a title also shows that the exposure of being in a winning program will only add to his endorsement gold mine. Of course China is now a big market and his merch sells very well already and will obviously sell at lot more if the Heat win it all. Also with the Olympics around the corner his game will be showcased even more.Hopefully a Heat NBA title won't happen as even if they beat the Celts tomorrow the Thunder are waiting with fresh legs and winning form to knock them over.
