Q: Has your metro/bus card ever just stopped working?
I threw 100 RMB on my "yikatong" Beijing public transportation card last week and it promptly stopped working. I went back to the service desk and the person informed me that the only place I could get a refund for this was on the opposite damn side of the city. ?!?
No apologies or explanations as to what just happened. I've been telling my friends about this and several of them have had the same thing happen too. What the hell? I thought the entire purpose of these cards was convenience...

Weird. Sometimes my card doesn't seem to swipe properly when I go into the subway but the gates let me in anyway. When I get off however the turnstiles come up with an error message, so I usually end up jumping to gates.
If that ever happens again all you have to do is go ask one of the people that works there and they should have a card to let you pass. That has happened to me occasionally and that's what I do. It has never happened twice in a row. I'm not sure what it is, but I did see the entire machine break down once! Nobodies card worked that day!
