Q: Have any of you ever been denied access to a library at your university?

I recently talked with a friend who told me that no foreign teachers or foreign students can use the new library that the university just built. Is this common or is it just an isolated case?

In Guilin our university library had this one room which was only for Chinese nationals. It even had a sign in English and French saying that foreigners were not allowed in this room.

It used to drive the foreign teachers crazy, since this university was more of a second-rate technical institute.

Eventually, the consensus was that it is really an empty room and the sign is  up merely to drive us crazy with curiosity....

No, never in a million years would I be denied going to a library that was located at a University that I was attending. Well, back then you did need your library card or your student ID card to use the computers that was all with the current updated sticker to prove you were attending classes that semester unless you were an alumni, then you can enjoy all the benefitts!! last year i was a bit stuck on reading material - before getting the electronic book. I asked a student  if i could borrow an english language book from the library. It was a reasonable idea. However, as we went up to the sixth floor i got more and more disapproving looks from staff members and the student lost her nerve and left !

That's so weird.  And how dare you consider perusing such tomes of ancient knowledge.

i walk in the library at every university i have worked for with no problems, the selection is so bad, i would never check anything out anyway, in fact i have offered to donate english books to the library but they sell them to the paper collectors instead, really pissed me off, i once donated books and the school created an english reading room to show off to the bosses, but never let the students actually read any of the books.

most of the people in the library would never speak english well enough to tell you to leave and the guards usually dont want to talk to me.

the architect university had a good coffee shop on the 1st floor here in jinan.

i usually grade papers in the library when they screw me with a split schedule and no time to go home and come back.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
