So I handed in my husband's short-stay Schengen visa application today and must now sit back and wait for the passport to arrive, hopefully with a visa in it. Visa-issues always stress me out to the max and now I'm just anxious and going through all the documents I provided over and over in my head. Could I have forgotten something? Did I forget to tick a box somewhere? It's driving me insane. All we want is a simple 90-day tourist visa, single entry so I comfort myself knowing that I have an EU passport and we're not applying for a complicated, long-term visa. Still, I can't help but worry that his application might get refused. Since many of you seem to be married to Chinese people on this forum, have you found the whole visa process straightforward and easy? Do they easily refuse visas or are they more lenient because you're married? (I know visa rules vary from country to country but I just want to get a general overview).

Being married is a plus. The consul I spoke with last, to complain that the visa processing people where being too picky said that as long as there is no incorrect information then the visa will be issued to a spouse.
Having had a visa before is also a plus.
Does your embassy provide any kind of track/trace. We get a reciept with an application number and it is possible to call and mail, and if they realize there is something wrong or missing with the documentation they will allow to correct it, naturally delaying the process. You can probably call and ask if the documentation provided was satisfactory. I am not sure, but I think some countries process visa applications in China, others in the destination country.
I have not heard about anyone getting refused as long as they are within the rules. I do have a friend back home whose mother in law from Iran was refused because they had handed in an application for a 3 month visit inside the same 12 month period as her last 3 month visit. (not sure about the number of months) They just resubmitted the application and it went through the second time
i share your visa problems, just handed in an application for my gf but we are not married so might be even more troublesome for us.
always the worst thing is that you lose alot of money.
if she gets refused i will lose around 4k rmb
1k for the visa
and 3k for the canceld airticket... had to book it because seats are limited around christmas-.-
Nessquick:
wow, 3k for tickets, I wish mine are that dirt cheap ( I paid 3k USD for 3 of us with Aeroflot and 6month in advance )
cooter:
Wow, no way would I have booked non-refundable tickets before arranging the necessary visa first.

I applied for a visa for my girl friend. I invited her. I documented that I had money and a house, put money in her bank account. I'm sure they considered it long enough to make sure there was enough red ink on the denied stamp. The only woman I know that got a visa, applied on her own and did not show any affiliation with anyone. They just assume she will not come home.
dom87:
they are refundable but you always have to pay the cancelation fee, for this tickets its 3k
the main thing I didnt invited her and i didnt sign a obligation letter. We showed like her contracts in china i m just not sure how they can think someone wont come back? germany would kick her out without visa anywaysTedDBayer:
Tickets are refundable if you pay large and get open tickets or pay for flight insurance. You still loose. Don't wave flight insurance if you aren't sure.

We got ours this week. I am so happy right now. I know many people who have successfully gotten visas for their unmarried Chinese partners. The key is that they have a company letter from China to say that they're coming back to their job after the short trip. It also helps if he/she has property or assets in China. I also provide personal photos and overviews of our relationship history. It never hurts to add a personal touch (provided you don't mind sharing your private life with a stranger).

the embassy asked today to express my passport copy and visa to them, eventhough i never mentioned my name anywhere in the visa the embassy knew that my gf has a german bf and asked for my documents lol
but since i have a Z visa i have good hopes that we will get it since i will return with her together
So, how is going ? did you get it ?
I am going afternoon, for my sons residence permit, hope so...

Yes we got it! And it only took two days! What a relief. I was initially expecting it to take two weeks but on the second day he received a text to say that the passport was on its way. I didn't know if this was a good or bad sign (they don't tell you whether you got it or not) but alas it all worked out. Good luck with you. I think if you provide all the documents they ask for you'll be fine.
