Q: Have they pissed off your wife or gf?

The other night we were out to dinner with 8 others and having a nice time. Or so I thought. About an hour in we were enjoying the food and beer and suddenly my wife got quiet and I knew something wasn't right. She wouldn't respond for a few minutes (more like 20) but finally she told me what our "good friend" had said to her. The woman in question is of good standing I guess you could say. My wife says she is "rich" whatever that means here. Anyways, she had made a statement to my wife about my presence at the dinner table and subsequently the purpose for my inclusion at the other dinners as well. Seems I am their "TOY". That's right, I was referred to as their TOY. Something to look at and play with as was explained. ..........................................................

I was rippin mad!!! and somehow kept it inside for my wife's sake. These idiots believe they can openly say shit like that and it will just roll off my back? What level of humanity are we dealing with here? Normal human beings don't say or even consider crap like that.

Keep an ear out for wan2ju4. I hear it at least once a day. I can't think of any male Chinese I've known who hasn't called me that at least once, even my "friends who are like brothers", as well as many of the women. And of course passers-by.

Do the apologists and excuse-makers really think they're screaming 'hello' or whistling at you because they're friendly and not because they want to see you react and put on a show? If you even turn your head when they say hello, they'll congratulate themselves for ten minutes on their great "spiritual victory". Do they really think the Chinese call you 'foreign friend' because they want a friendship with you? They think of us as a child with a jar thinks of the insects he's collecting. You are nothing but a toy here and if you think differently you're an idiot.

My wife is a pillar of patience. We can't walk down the street without people calling her whore, traitor, imitation foreign devil, etc. and she doesn't care at all. She'll even stop me when I start screaming at the arrogant shits. Don't know how she does it, except that the women here are essentially raised to take as much abuse as possible.

I've heard the whore and mistress thing before when passing by some ignorant young dude. I think its nothing but total jealousy, and a feeble attempt to act all big and tough. While both of us are pissed off, neither worry about it since its just some insecure prick.

Never had a story like yours though, I would have been irate

It's funny

I have not had half the problems you guys have had.

My wife is not one of those following type's

and as derek said rich in the eyes of the other town people

She always dresses well and is a real  lady undoubtedly like your own wives.

however I believe  it helps it being a small city .

I have no elusions that I didn't start out as a curiosity and it does not happen behind my back

but now mostly I feel welcome and Known by my name and not my wife's foreigner

even the Cops will say Hello Phil and exchange pleasantries if they see me on the street

you still get the odd snicker from the middle school kids but sometimes you here one of their friends tell them off for being rude

I'm over worrying about what other people think and maybe I choose to let most things go over my head

even if things went the way they did for derek I would most likely let my wife do with it as she felt fit as it is her face and I tend to make things worse when I get off my leash

if they went the way of Kchur I would say all Betts were off

and I would end up at the police station again (haven't been in a Chinese one Yet)

trying to avoid that one

If something like this has happened before, she sure never told me about it.  In public, it's always her taking my arm or holding my hand.  So sweet, something else to listen for besides lao wai, wai guo ren, yang gui zi....wan ju, haha.
