just a couple of near misses in traffic, one was a car driving on the wrong side of the road, at night, no lights, while I was in a taxi where the driver was busy with his phone. No seatbelts available.

A VERY near one. Last year I was cruising along the G4 gaosu in direction of Shenzhen. I took the exit ramp in Shajing together with a 40ft container lorry. The truck was on the right lane and I was on the left one. While taking the ramp, the truck was about 50m before me, so I had no clear view of the ramp. What would you expect btw, in a ONE WAY highway exit ramp? When we aligned, I had a.... you define the proper word for him..... driving his car UP THE RAMP on my lane. I couldn't evade pulling into the right lane as I had the truck occupying it. I could only slam on the brakes while pointing at the "you name it", wait that LOOOOOOOONG 1-2 seconds for the truck to clear the way to allow me steering to the right. I missed it by half a meter, and I could stop only some meters passed the car. I would have been a 50-60kmh front collision which means a almost sure death. I swear if I could stop before the car, I would have pulled the driver out of his car going bare hands through his door.

I had my hands shaking for a good half an hour.

Walking down a badly lit street at night on the way back to my accommodation was an exercise in walking with a death-wish, due to the electric bikes that were driven without lights.

Wow, you almost went off a cliff in a car? That beats my experience...

But yeah, every day in China was a near death experience for me.
