It would be interesting to meet some of you one day. I know everyone has different work schedules and what not..but there's gotta be 3-4 days when we all have time off to meet up somewhere. I think it would be fun...maybe lol. We should invite Vicky too! Where is she?
I've just had a small gathering with 2 other members at a Cantonese family wedding. I already knew one of the guys but hadn't met the other before. It was a fun weekend but typically chaos with Chinese characteristics!
I'd be interested in a Guangdong gathering sometime (I live in GZ but have a car so can travel easily)
ScotsAlan:
Ha ha. At least when I complain about my MIL on here, there are now two other guys who have experienced her madness first hand .
I was not happy when she emptied the baby at the edge of the street..... less than 10 feet from a toilet.
I can think of at least a half dozen threads to start based on these last two days
Hotwater:
Funniest part for me was the scooter rider who fell off....would love to know how much baijiu he'd drunk at lunchtime!
BHGAL:
history.. suggest white water rafting (funtime) I like it .... paintball (AK47, not so much fun) .. Enping .
a recommended weekend getaway .. been there done that...
sometimes places aren't exactly as advertised, this place was pretty good

a cheap pleasant weekend getaway..... never pay listed price!!!!
We chat casually online, but when it comes down to a meaating, I think the vast distances and varied schedules will make things difficult for most of us. My time is stretched between doing classes and being with my family, and usually I'm lucky if I can get 2 evenings for myself per week.
It can be nice... A big problem is that we are few but spread all over the country. No matter which place is picked, most people will have to take the plane. If someone come to Suzhou, I'll be glad to have a few beers.
WanderingTeacher:
I might take you up on that actually. I bought a house in Hangzhou 7 months ago and I go there whenever i have at least 4 days off (I just left Hangzhou this morning, I spent New Year's there). I've been meaning to visit the sister city Suzhou, but haven't gotten off my ass to do so. Next time though for sure!
Strawberry66:
I am 30 minutes' train away from Suzhou snd 1 hour train away from Hangzhou.Has a goodjob which only work 7.5 hours everyday from Monday to Friday and got plenty of personal times:)Now I am in holiday:) Who wanna come to Shanghai? My birthday is coming...
Eorthisio:
Strawberry66 are you seriously looking for an idiot here to take you out on your birthday? LOL
My first impression was 'good grief, no!' As they always are when I'm invited anywhere and my natural anti-social tendencies are allowed to come to the fore.
But, as is usual, I get over them (mostly) and turn up where I should. Sometimes I even meet interesting people and have fun.
So, I'm up for it.
Karamay, 4 or 5 hrs north west of Urumqi....You'll need a plane.
Are one of you the dude who writes the articles for the diplomat about Xinjiang under the fake name...
WanderingTeacher:
I have no idea what you're talking about.....seriously ?????
rasklnik:
There's a guy who works as an illegal/undercover journalist in Xinjiang, and I think he uses English teaching as his cover.
Don't know, but I've met up with several members of this forum in real life. Most of 'em have quit, sadly. I also once saw Traveler walking around, but I didn't say anything to him. Hopefully he didn't notice me. . .
There are some forum members I'd love to meet in real life. Shoot me a message if you're around Changchun. I've met one forum member before.
I had a good bunch of beer, a delicious meal or two and a few good English conversations this past couple days, with a couple echinacities members. It was good!!
happy to know I live in a cleaner town, than the one we visited. happy to know my MIL is not as goofy as some. happy to see a cute little daughter of 'mixed" race (again)....
very nice folks that got me there and a fun ride home.... very fast sometimes, lots of brakes and horns , lane swerving and pedestrian highway avoidance.
I have adopted peeing on the street as acceptable behavior, but , yah but.... extreme situations require extreme measures.
While the beer took precedence this couple days, I do think the seafood meal was very good. The "restaurant" was a fine experience. The village walk was GREAT. Thank you. The hand pump wells in a reasonably new neighborhood were interesting.
overall an experience I would welcome again, different place .... once was enough here.
It was a good adventure with Chinese characteristics.
