Q: Have you been on the Beijing - Shanghai bullet train?

I used the Beijing - Shanghai bullet train recently and it was a really pleasant experience and much roomier, punctual, smooth and more comfortable than on an airplane; it was my best ever travelling experience on a train with the short Maglev train service in Shanghai being a close second.

I read that a new Beijing - Shenzhen route opens in early January and will take 10 hours, down from the present 23 hours.  There is nothing to compare to these trains in Western countries I have been , including the so called high speed trains from London to France/Belgium which has a maximum speed of 160 km compared to about 350 km here.

Have you tried the bullet trains and what were your experiences?

Outstanding, if you can skip last years G train accidents. I am sure, in some shorter distances traveling with G train is faster than with airplane.

I use G train often on route Tianjin - Nanjing. Very comfortable, a bit longer than 4 hours for 1000 km long journey.

I also take the same route like you took recently..the only thing i always use to travel between Beijing and Jinan...sometimes my train stops at Tianjin and sometimes it goes directly to Jinan and then morve further for Shanghai...

But I never experienced 350 Km/hr rather it is always 300-306 and yaa it is punctual..Inside Train staffs are beautiful girls..

My travel time is generally of 90 minutes which covers 450 KM of distance between Beijing Nan and Jinan Xi..

Always i takes 2-3 beer can and watch those beautiful staffs and complete my journey..in 90 minutes..

This is a picture of the first class coach (called "business class") on the new Beijing Shanghai G trains.

raptors:

I sat in the second class cabin for 555 yuan and it was much, much more comfortable than travelling cattle class on airlines with a seat pitch of maybe 52 cm compared to 32 cm on airlines.............

The G-train to Beijing is much better than any Chinese airline.  Also you have the benefit of having the train station in the city instead of outside the city.  The trains normally run on-time and are quite comfortable. The planes never leave on time and you are crushed into a seat built for a midget.
