Q: Have you been ripped off?
Last night walking around with my wife decided to get a snickers bar at a corner store. I know the price of these are no more than 5rmb at the supermarket or 7/11 anyway the clerk said 8rmb. I didnt accept the 8rmb put 5rmb on the counter and walked out.
Has this happened to anyone where they have been ripped off?
Constantly, especially when I was in bigger cities with lots of foreigners (Shanghai being the worst: People trying to charge you more for products with the price tag right on them). The foreigner tax is just one of China's many absolutely non-racist cultural differences which we must unquestioningly and admiringly accept, lest being labeled as racists ourselves.
I have done that with taxi drivers twice. They ask for ten, when I know the actual fare sometimes so I give 7 and get out. So far I haven't been challenged.
The "foreigner price" pisses me off everyday. Do we have a "Chinese price" in Canada? Nope.
But we know where we are.

The taxi one always happens at least once a month I know the direction but the street names get me. If he takes me the long route and I know it simply give him the 10 instead of 20 walk out he might shout but I just keep walking.
