Q: Have you changed since coming here? Picked up some habits? If so, do you blame China?

I've developed some pretty weird habits.  For example, I've just had a shave...like, it's not even 6pm....Xinjiang time it's about 1/2 past 3.  What's that about!

And I got a huge shock when I weighed myself for the first time in years the other day.  I'm 5 kg heavier than I've ever been in my life!

I'm blaming China but not sure if that's entirely fair.

Have you changed since you came here?  Picked up some habits?

In EC, households must separate the garbage. I just had lengthymorning discussion with my mum about (not) separating garbage last night.

Separating talk replaced 'good morning' greeting, so I left......

I want to come back to China, here are all mad. My next EU visit will end in Camden, not any country further.

In China, I always (sometimes) weight myself in pharmacies. They have free scale, Also some farmers on the outside markets use big scales, and I measure myself there (in Fuk.).

Usually I know my (over-) weight, when buying new pants. If size doesn't fit, my belly is bigger.angel

That's sad.

Yeah, I'm on the free ride here. Skipped HK for that reason! Sad? Look in the mirror for that!

Spit, push people in the subway is the norm and often also cutting lines.

Well, I have been VERY resilient when it comes to anything to makes me lose my humanity. I will still hold doors for people, I will still say "Thank you" and I will still have a heart for poor animals in the cold.

That being said, I like duck neck, chicken feet and baijiu binges (sometimes). So I guess I have changed in that retrospect.

I have picked up some bad habits while in China but not the habit of blaming others for what I do so I do not blame China.

I am older now than when I first came here. I fully blame China for this aging.

Whenever I go home I can't stop putting toilet paper in the bin instead of the toilet...

On top of that, I just say 'en 嗯' to everything all the time, which is not really a polite manner of saying yes in the West, but it is so easy and just turned into a habit really quickly.

Also whenever I get on the subway in London I squeeze in even though there is no space by European standards - it's hard to be liked on the subway in London.

When I arrived I was an alcoholic, now i'm a responsible father who drinks two bottles of beer an evening. China takes no credit for this whatsoever.

I have become so much more patient!  When I first arrived I was always frustrated with the traffic and not being able to do anything quickly ANYWHERE.  But now I have learned to relax more and when there is a traffic jam I am quite happy getting out taking pictures and eating snacks.

I learned to be apathetic except when I can make extra profits. I don't give anything to beggars anymore. I don't take time to even answer to locals when they talk to or about me, or when they provocate me, I just ignore them, unless I can of course make money from them.

I have become like locals, except I have a working brain.

Changed, yes, I had to.

Habits I took (hard to list them all, after the years, forgot what is what):

 * Showering in the evening, not in the morning

 * Throwing the toiled paper in a dedicated bin, not in the toilet

 * Not saying "Hi, how are you ? Nice day today, right" when entering in a familiar shop

When with someone I assume to be from Mainland

  * Being careful to not hurt somebody feelings, by saying what I think.

   * Assuming that person might not see causal links, but will see simultaneous occurrences.

I'm not sure if I'm right or wrong to warp my mind to accommodate cultural differences. It costs a bit of my sanity, and it rarely pays off. I kind of blame China for this.
