Q: Have you ever been to one of China's Shanzhai European towns?

I heard about the carbon-copy of Halstatt (Austrian tourist town) located in Guangdong. There seems to be quite a few of these dotted around the country, and I think it would be surreal knowing you're in China but feeling European at the same time (if the experience is authentic of course).

Apart from seeing European-style buildings in Tianjin, Qingdao and Shanghai, I haven't been to one of these special towns and am interested as to what they're like.

Have not. Not sure I see any reason why.

If I go to a place like this, I can take some pics, post them on Facebook with the comment "See how everything is copied in China" Nothing good will come from that. Summer vacation plan is to go show the wife the real deal.

I would much rather spend my travels in China on something uniquely Chinese. Like the traditional sights, scenery and maybe a ghost town. The South China Mall is actually pretty high on my list, and despite being quite close to it I hav yet to find a kindred spirit that thinks going there "for fun" seems like something sane people does.
