Q: Have you ever been to a sex shop in China? What do they sell?
Go to some of those shops and then come back to tell us the answer!
Forgetmenot, that is the equivalent of going to a main street heroine shop in New York.
It MAY be big business, (most would accept it is), but it is still illegal and you're not going to find shops openly selling such items.

I disagree - there are many shops of this kinds, legal, with entry straight from the street, even in small cities (in Kaiping I saw two).
As a proof - I'll make a picture in the weekend, because one of them is quite near the place where I live ;) and those of You who can read Chinese letters can translate what is the name of this kind of shop (I'm really interested... "adult helping shop", "better sexual life shop"?)

If that is the case I will happily stand corrected. I suspect however, that it will turn out to be a 'sexual health shop' and it's range of 'products' will be limited to 'educational' or 'health related'. i.e. condoms, creams, educational books and films etc, not overtly 'entertaining' porn.
Now to be honest, there is really little difference, apart, probably, from a lawyers perspective.

Reducing, and relief from sexual tension is a a part of keeping society health :)
We have to remember, that sexual intercourse is more "meaningful" in China then in the (so called) West. So if government don't want to see hordes of serial rapists... have to give some alternatives. One of them are those shops, massage parlors, KTVs...
In that shops there are dildos of many kinds, sex-dolls etc. So in my opinion it can be "named" in western terms "sex shop" but with limited assortment of available products (matching law and accordingly regulations).

Yeh, i've seen those shops around, Hugh, and they are 'sex' shops, no doubt about it. No doctor's recommendation on the real feel plastic vaginas or anything.
On a side note, on my life, i've just taken five minutes to watch my son while the missus sorts out his dinner, and I picked up a strange caterpillar car thing she bought him today and noticed on the side of it next to a picture of a caterpillar wearing a hat, were the words 'Fanny Toys'. That's one way to sneak a suggestive brand name onto the market.
I was once in Shanghai. Interesting experience.
Sales woman dressed like pharmacist ("sterile", professional look), and just a gadgets of many kinds, without those that are not "allowed" by gov. (BDSM, les, gay etc.), no videos, a lot of condoms...
I just do Window Shopping..but these type of shops are common.
There are several in Suzhou and in Shanghai there is an entire floor of a shopping mall full of dildos, penis pumps, bondage and other related items. I went with a couple of western female coworkers who wanted to go. In one shop an old woman working there attempted to demonstrate on one of the ladies how a certain vibrating device worked. The look on her face was priceless.
Dildos, vibrators, fleshlights, costumes(nurse etc) lingerie, rubber women (they come with a rubber iPhone so they are always happy and available for use) etc. No porn on public display from what i have seen.
I've been to a few here in Guangzhou. Most are hole-in-the-wall shops that sell poor quality products and fake Viagra or viagra type products. Depending on the shop and how "nice" it is compared to Western standards, they sell similar items. However most adult sex shops sell fakes. For example, it's hard to find a real Fleshlight. Most are copies (copies that look identical or the shape is a little different). Also, the small shops sell fake Viagra, which is 1. illegal for a store to sell and 2. a copy that looks identical. From what I hear, sex shops do this because there is a lot of profit as well as a lot of risk. I heard that sever people recently (past 6 months) got arrested and are in jail for selling Viagra (real/fake).
You also wont find porn in sex shops since porn is illegal in China.
China's biggest sex toy shop is in Panyu (20 minutes from Guangzhou, 15 minutes from Canton Fair) called: 爱殿 - idian - Nancy's Love Shop Hollywood. They are the biggest and most professional sex shop i've been to in China. The shop is actually American, which is probably why it's different than other shop. It's 2 stories and is full of a variety of: Lingerie, Condoms, Stimulants, Delays, Lubricants, brand name vibrators, dildos, blow up dolls, and realistic life size silicone sex dolls! I'm probably missing something but if you're interested in a nice sex shop, check them out.

Wow, you really know your stuff there. You can pick the real viagra from the fake ( bet there were some disappoints during that trial and error period) and there's nothing you don't seem to know about sex toys. You can even tell us exactly where to find the biggest and best shop in China and what they sell.
That's either quite creepy, or you're advertising your own place....

I thought it was pretty awesome because I used to buy condoms from this shitty 10 sqm "sex shop" close to my house. And when i went to idian, it turned out to be the biggest shop in China they said. And the life size dolls scared the crap out of me when i saw them.

The sexual market value of females is falling, sometimes the free market works in mysterious ways, for some reason, maybe all the gold diggers that have fleeced me over the years, I hope this continues. Karma may be a bastard instead of a bitch, how refreshing to know.
