Q: Have you ever seen a convertible in China?

After being home for a few weeks now...I am noticing all the convertibles on the road and thinking that in over 1 year in China I have never seen one.

Are they scared of the sun or the pollution?

Or is there another reason I haven't thought of?

Seen a few in Beijing but on rare occasions.

Think they are afraid of pollution and people spitting and getting some spray back

Saw one just the other day.  Had the top down on a nice cloudy day with a light drizzle.  Because it's really important that people can see the SB who can afford such a luxury  (it was an Audi something or another).

saw my first convertible last week in Ningbo.  It was a Mercedes SL.  sports cars are not common here.  probably because all the cars are neutered.  no V8's, no high output engines...  really sucks to drive here.

WhiteBear:

Well... few years ago I saw few convertibles in Ningbo, very few, some Audi and Merc's.

Btw. not to many strong cars there?? I regulary saw in downtown for example Masserati Quatroporte with special numbers (all was 4s), there were also A8's, BMW7xx and so on. Something changer over those 5 years?

I also remember that when taking a shortcut from the Green Hotel (If I remember it's name) to the TianYi Square, there was a saloon with sport cars... I saw there some Corvettes as far as I remember.

I have seen no more than about half a dozen in the many years I've been in China. The last one I saw was driving into a parking lot in Sanlitun. To be honest, I was more taken in by the beauty that was driving it!

I've seen drop-top 'Bug' in HK.

Never seem convertible in Mainland.  Well, maybe those SL Mercedes, but I've always seen them with tops up.

I saw acar the other day, i think it might have been a van, with the top cut off and a funny looking rag top, It had home made outside fender welded on the body to make it look kinds old, I didn't see the front, the car looked weird, shitty job actually.

I think it's fear of the sun, or the tan that comes with it. In the west a tan means you're rich enough to spend your hols in the sun, but in China a tan means you're so poor you have to work in the fields. I can do better than a convertible though, Dude, i've seen an actual transformer: this girl I dated went from being a hot 25 year old to a rough 55 year old in only two years.
