Q: Have you heard about that new live translation app?

Apparently there's one that has just been released which translated English into Chinese and vice versa when you speak into it, and can send it to friends. Do you think it will work consideration how dodgy Google translate and others are?

I had the best luck with google translate. It said the funniest and strangest things. I never had to think of witty things to say. It did it for me. Where is the bread?  = Keep the monkey for luck.

What a coincidence, that's my catch phrase - "Keep a monkey for luck!"

There is an app my student was using, he would hold the camera over an English word and it would show the Chinese definition. I wonder if there is an app that goes from Chinese to English. i would love to be able to read some darn menus...

cooter:

There is, at least I know there is for iPhone.  It's called Pleco, and you can add an optional optical character recognizer plug-in.  The freebie version will tell you how to pronounce the character.  If you want the translation, that will cost a few bucks.

A:I had a similar experience in HK. If I recall correctly, before or at the Z visa application, I had to submit ME from the ordinary HK clinic, where I explained why I need ME and I asked them to examine only necessary things (I don't remember the cost ...), and then ... I got Z stamp and when back in China, I had to complete another RP ME, which was on the employer, i.e. included in the Contract ...We've never discussed refund of payment for HK ME with my employer. Year 2013 ...I'd say, that is a regular thingy embassies around the world require, before issuing visas for LT stay in the country. "Vladimir Vladimiro-Witch ras-Putin" (LOL@your pronunciation ..) demands the same thingy before granting LT stay in Ruski.  ... Haa, 2013 was the Snowden's year. I was in Kowloon at the time of his landing .. with all these files ... I'm-Still-in-LMAO-State ... Cost for the ME in HK was around HK$ 2000/200 EUR, and ME was kind of swift, quicker and way shorter than on the mainland ... -- icnif77
