Seems like once you get the job , you are doomed to stay in the same position till you leave the company permanently .

I reject promotions if they don't match my extra work on the side. Usually a promotion is not worth the stress in China.

You talk like my first DOS in Tangshan EF. He hired me just to take some of the classes of his shoulder. South African, very good chap, thou!
Yeah, me.
Most of the people I know who have been in china for a while have moved up the chain and ended up in some sort of management / supervisor role.
I think that getting promotion is a formidable task, not only in China but also everywhere
I've been promoted here but both times it was foreign owned companies.

I've seen teachers moved up to head teacher and get a 1000 bump. For me, not worth it. management duties on top of your regular teaching load.
I knew this girl, from Indonesia. She worked for a trading company and she did this good that she got up to the top and was planning for a startup of her own. She brought so many clients and benefits that she planned to have the same for herself. It took her about two years to succeed that far. Her Mandarin speaking skills were outstanding and she would make a great impression to the clients that they would ask to work with her not anymore with her boss. That rang the bell and made her to think of her own company. I ignore, however, whether she made it on the next big leap of her life or not. She was successful indeed.
i was promoted twice and offered a third time. 3 different companies I worked for
