Q: Have you heard anything regarding the German man who was stabbed at a local hopot joint in Shanghai?
This is how it went:
Apparently, the deceased was just having dinner with a female colleague, suddenly her husband and father in law showed up. Then the husband pulled out a kitchen knife and stabbed mercilessly stabbed the man to death right in front of everyone. The man later is said to have died of his wounds at the scene.
According to what i heard this was all over weibo and and qq news sites.
Must be more to it than that. Rumours are that he was nailing the girl. Husband got pissed. You take risks like that sometimes bad things happened.
Read about it. Maybe on this site. Don't remember now.
Upshot is the foreigner is dead. Ouch. (I've heard death by knife is more painful than death by gunshot. Anyway, that is neither here nor there.)
And the killer? Still alive and crazy, I'll bet.
What's up with the local temperament these days? Rather exaggerated, dontcha think?
Errr, seems to be a business between (at least) 3 peoples. I don't think that nationality have much to do with this news item, unless there are seriously facts to back that nationality was a factor...

super good point, just like the media annouce every bad thing that involves a foreigner, seems we also sensationalize everythjng involving a foreigner as well. Like this is a sign we are all in danger. Its just a crazy dude killing another dude for banging his wife
He was a dumb fool, if you excuse my lack of sympathy. He was set up for sure. He was cavorting with this married Chinese lady, who had tipped off her husband, who is probably a pimp in real life, and the husband appeared demanding money to repair his honor. Things got out control when the Deutsch wouldn't cough up the moolah so the husband went nuts and resorted to the ultimate.
I am not sure even if the husband will do jail time, particularly if he can establish this as a crime of passion. Maybe he will, then, however, and maybe not long.
This will be an interesting one to follow up on.

@Red: In just this moment, I really miss one of my friends back home. He has an extensive whiskey collection, Laphroaig in 18, 25 and 30 year versions.... not sure I have ever been allowed to taste the 30 year old one. Must remember that next time I go north.
By the way. I've been thinking hard about what season is best to joke about dead Germans, have come up empty so far.
ok some details about. The guy, 34 yo, was about to go back germany and that was a dinner between colleagues (also the wife of the killer is an employee of this german company), when this guy suddenly went inside the restaurant and for FIVE minutes he cut this guy to death. FIVE minutes this guy was basically attacked in front of all of his colleague, chinese i guess, without anyone moving a finger...wow

The guy lives in Shandong, which is a long way from Shanghai, and I just don't believe that he moseyed all the way down to Shanghai on a lark.
These kind of set-ups happen all the time around here.

If you were to read the Chinese press in Chinese, my sweet, little, kind piece of Munster cheese, you might notice that they all mentioned that Mme lives in Shanghai and Monsieur lives in Shandong, and that is not Shandong-on-the-Oder either. I don't know what you read in the Deutsch press but even QQ carried the bit about the separate lives. Now please excuse me because I need to return to my sauerkraut and apfelkuchen..
I remember the poor Chinese girl that was attacked in France. One of the top officials apologized publicly . Has any Chinese official ever done the same?
There is no excuse for this.
Someone should tally up the number of foreigners murdered in China and compare it to overseas nationals murdered.
