Q: Have you mastered the art of slurping noodles since coming to China?

I'm always impressed when I see Chinese people slurping their noodles like there's a mini vacuum in their mouth sucking up each one. I haven't mastered the technique yet and often bite off half the noodle when it doesn't completely get sucked into my mouth.

It's disgusting.  Please don't do it.  Or you'll become *that* guy.  An old Chinese person can get away with it.  But young Chinese?  No.  Expats?  Oh no.

I don't like the chicken noodle soup type. I like the spicy fried noodles and I eat them with a fork. I made spaghetti for my GF and she knew how to eat it with a spoon and fork, no slurping.

Never did, never will. Same for slurping soup or hot beverages, or talking mouth wide open while chewing.

Face muscles in humans allow to sip without producing disturbing noises.

If anyone in China older than 30 slurps, I will assume they have had a stroke. For the rest of the world the age limit is 5-10.

Skillful slurping is not high on my list of priorities. In fact it's not on any of my lists.

In other news, I don't think it's very common.

What is ironic is that in Chinese eating habits (can't use the word "manners" here), biting half way through the noodles and letting the other half fall back in your bowl/plate is considered inappropriate...
