Q: Have you noticed that Chinese twitch a lot in their sleep?

I noticed my wife twitches a lot in her sleep. Didn't think anything of it until I started to see more and more Chinese twitching all over the place.

It's not crazy violent or anything, it is like spasms and weird sleeping positions. All my life in Canada, I have never seen people twitch like that... however... I have seen animals twitch like that... usually dogs or cats.

It's like a subtle convulsing... I am not calling Chinese animals (or am I?) but it just struck me as odd as it seemed like a lot of Chinese suffered from nerve damage or something (possibly Mercury poisoning) as I noticed it more around the center areas of China which is famous for having a ton of mercury poisoning. Even the first emperor of China was given mercury because his counselors told him it would keep him young. He ended up going mad (what? aren't all emperors are buried with their armies and make statues of them!)? and died.

Anyway, anyone else notice this?

Oh yeah, talking about weird sleeping positions. My cousin came to stay with us (randomly, cause that's how my wife's family does things) and she slept on the couch and sometimes the floor cause we just had a one bedroom apartment at the time...

But anyway, she slept in positions that looked like chalk outlines when somebody dies. Half the time I couldn't tell if she was asleep or meeting her maker... it looked so uncomfortable. I also noticed Chinese are able to go from totally awake to a dead sleep in like 10 seconds... anytime, anyplace... no comfort necessary!

It is like their superpower.

I have also noticed that. I really wish that I could do it myself...but doesn't it hurt them when they wake up?

... twitching during sleep is a strong indication that the sleeper is dreaming. Goes with rapid eyes movement. Some people twitch more than others, depends on your mood, your character, etc. For example, people with anxious personalities might have intense dreams during stressed times.

As for sleeping anywhere anytime, it's training started very early. At least in my country, parents go to great length to ensure a very quiet environment when their child sleeps. It's common to explain to a neighbour or someone else that baby's sleeping, silence would be welcome... and people tends to comply to that argument. Also, back home, parents tend to stick to scheduled times for eating, sleeping, etc. With this training, you tend to need the same condition to fall asleep : silence, proper time, those tight specific conditions you have been trained with during childhood. Contrast that with how kids in China are cared for : noise is omnipresent, schedule is quite elastic.

I havent noticed that at all. My woman can sleep 14 hours straight without moving. Im not joking at all when i say I have , on multiple occasions, had to wake her up to make sure she hasnt died.  and after a 12 hour power snooze shes still pissed i woke her!

Robk:

My wife can sleep for ages too. I can't really sleep over 8-10 hours without having a huge headache and feeling ill for oversleeping (unless I am sick or something).

Okay, I am starting to think that it is possibly a regional thing. My wife told me many villagers would burn coal and die in their sleeps because the houses were not ventilated properly.

I also noticed a lot of young students have lots of white hair. May all be related.

Ya I like that dead sleep thing - the wife can do 12 hrs then come home for a nap after lunch for another two hours. Then do it all over again. I am lucky to get 6 hrs a night with all the banging , coughing , spitting, horns that seem to start just after the birds in the morning.

saying that though , I notice most don't have energy for anything ( to much rice ??) of course most start the day with major carb breakfast and dopey by 10am.

saying that though it does allow me to get out of bed and have some quiet before the phone calls from mother , with associated yelling in the phone start the day

Ya got to love it !!
