Q: Have you spent more money, or made more since coming to China?

If you include my flights to and from HK(4)and Canada(2), I am in the hole by about 6 G's. It should even out before I leave; hopefully.

What about you guys?

PS. I came to China expecting to just break even, based on my lifestyle and salary.

I came to China 7 years ago on a bank loan that i've yet to repay. Since then i've been down to my last hundred and stuck for a bed for the night, and i've received one healthy inheritance that kept the party going for about two years. It's been up and down but I guess, having been employed the whole time i've been here, i've probably made more. And spent it. I don't expect any calls any day soon to come and write for The Economist.

i am spending more and more..... also earning more and more...

the fact is that i was fresh out of college with less than a year experience when i came to china 9yrs back.. was not a big spender as i had little money to spend... salary level was low as well...

As years progresses.. my salary doubled and then doubles again... so do my expenses...

I think i am quite happy..  thinking i should spend more...smiley

I usually manage to save 50%-60% of my salary, but during the summer I spend more. Overall I am still ahead, but not by as much as I could be.

I managed to save about 60 per cent of my salary without any hassles.

As for whether I came out in front overall, it depends. My partner did his CELTA just before we came, should I count that in China expenses? If so, maybe we came out 30-40,000 ahead after eight months. If we don't count the CELTA, maybe 40-50,000 ahead.

I spend less and save more. Wait, what was the question? I think it is two questions in one. I object.

A:Your potential employer is right! Purpose of the Medical exam before granting Z visa is to make sure, you won't be entering China in any abnormal and harmful to others condition.Few days after your arrival to China, you'll be required to complete another ME ... If ME in China will be OK, you'll get a Residence permit stamp into your book some 10-days afterwards. Imagine, you're an employer, who can sponsor my entry and work in China, but after my arrival to China would be found I carry some sickness, which would prevent Chinese .gov to issue a Residence permit. Rule is: Z visa should be converted into Residence permit in 30-days after entry to China.    So, my advice is:"Complete ME in your home country and forward medical results to your employer".Z visa grant will follow shortly afterwards. Employer is not wrong at their demand for the pre-arrival ME from your home country hospital.   -- icnif77
