Q: have you tried any traditional chinese remedy?
14 years 35 weeks ago in Health & Safety - China
I haven't, but my mother has. She has a form of fibromyalgia, and she used to take the pills. However, when my dad's company changed medical insurance companies, the new one no longer covered her prescription. So she now takes certain vitamins and gets acupuncture regularly. It doesn't work perfectly, but she says it works. Acupuncture can help certain things, that's for sure.
Yes, absolutely. When I first came to China in another century, so to speak, and I was up north on holidays during the summer, I was stung by a wasp. At first, nothing and then a serious paralysis of the left side of the face set up including the arm. My employer was really stricked with what to do. I was taken, however, to the local Chinese Traditional Medicine hospital, and at once they began a three-week course of acupuncture, daily, to all of the affected areas. They told that it might work and that it might not work. They also gave me the option of a Western-style treatment. In any case, at the end of a very, very frightful three weeks, the acunpuncture had worked amazingly well and I had fully recovered. Later, when I spoke with doctors at home, they told me that that very year the American Medical Assocation had admitted acunpuncture as a viable treatment. They explained to me how it infuses blood into the nerves at the affected areas and how this causes a rejuvenation / revitalisation of the affected area.
(I posted this before reading the above post, sorry) Does acupuncture count as a Chinese remedy? If so, I give it a huge thumbs up! It worked wonders for me. I had swollen knees and feet three years ago. It was gout and arthritis. Bedridden for 3 weeks. When I was able to finally move I got to the doctor and, believe it or not, I walked out of the hospital after not walking freely for almost a month. My pain was nearly gone after one session. The cost was 100RMB and the treatment took 40 minutes. I now go once a week and it has cured other problems too. (At least I believe it has.) I wholeheartedly suggest that you give it a try if you have an ailment that seems incurable or has been bothering you off and on for some time. Its a great pain killer.

in fact acupuncture is an ailment, it is very good form of alternative pain therapy, unlike drugs which decrease inflammation by attacking the prostaglandin formation as compared to acupuncture, these needles stimulate the nerves cell to fight the inflammation...
Let me openly say that I was a non believer of Chinese traditional medicine, and also of remedies and teas. And that also my GF is hypochondriac, and has dozens of herbs and other remedies for any possible sickness you can think of. And me, totally skeptical.
Then, I caugh a cold, you know, runny nose and sore throat and a bit of fever, some coughing. and she went into action, One tea to reduce fever (it worked), another one to clear throat, chew some sour tasting herbs to stop coughs and eliminate mucus, and within 4 days all symptons were gone.
A good and close friend of mine was having difficulties sleeping at night because his nose will plug up, and breathing became hard and kept him awake., This has been happening for many months now, doctors so far could not find a cure. Here comes GF, goes to herbalist, gets some mushrooms pulverized, buys some herbs, mixes everything and tells my friend to chew and shallow a tea spoon of the mix each night prior to bed time, and againg 12 hours later for a few days. My friend sleeps like a baby now, and does take his "chewing tobacco" (as he calls it) each day religiously.
I honestly do not know what to think now. At least some of it does work, I have seen it with my own eyes. And think about this, the raw material for some medicaments are either root, flower or leaves, or herb extracts. So, what's wrong with going to the source directly, it should be the same as taking a pill ?. Or is it not ?
