when My wife first came to AUS we were only boyfriend and girlfriend
We got a visitor visa for 3 months that way she didnt need the health check.
Later we got a pertentional spouse visa then the partner migration visa.
I know the US can be hard but Aus would also be right up there.
We just made sure we had plenty of supporting everdince and tell the truth.
This was the long way round but niether of us wanted to rush things

yes depends which country..... last year, we got a accompany spouse visa in 4 days (from the embassy in Shanghai). No big deal..
We just applied again for a temprally resedince permit for her, a wek later we went to pick it up. we just had to proove we have funds in the bank.

I think it also makes a difference if you have been married a year or more it is easier, but if you are newly-weds, then it is harder. Not sure where i heard or read that however.  Also, i think there may be a difference between getting a tourist visa to show her to the family and a green card.

i got all the way to customs but they complained about the chain and the radiator.

The best bet is just stick them in the checked luggage

It will basically depend on which country you cal home. 
I am familiar with the USA procedure, now only two types of visa are given, Fiancee (called k-1) and Married (called CR-1 if less than two years married or IR-1 if more).  Normal time averages about one year, fom 8 or 9 months up tp maybe 15 months.  A tourist visa to visit only is almost impossible, they think she will stay, requires owing a home for over 5 years and over 1/4 million yuan at bank.
And lots, and lots, and lots of form, documents, phonos, records of phone calls, letter written, receipts from visiting trips, etc.

Easy as pie. My wife got her first visa in two weeks, then her ten year multi entry. I talked to an immigration lawyer for her actual landed immigrant status when we do decide to come back and he said I didn't even need him. He said do the paperwork properly and you'll be fine.

Actually, depends on the country.  If you are already married outside of your home country, most countries (like the USA) automatically file it under immigration, so it is IMPOSSIBLE to get a tourist visa.  Even if you explain to them that you're only going for 2 weeks and will return to China.  Doesn't matter.

The Married visas are relatively new in the US, but they speed up the process.  A friend of mine was married in China about 5 years ago and it took 3 years before his wife got clearance to go to the US (because it was immigration).  They still WILL NOT issue tourist visas to spouses, as it is assumed that they might try to stay.  The marriage visas for the US can clear as quickly as 7 months, so start early.  Not sure for other countries, so check local laws or call your embassy.
